Social distancing

I'm confused about what social distancing means. Mainly because I've got children at nursery. Does social distancing really mean self isolating? Does it mean that ideally we should remove our children from nursery? Or does it just mean avoid large groups? Sorry if I'm being an idiot but...I'm just confused. It seems contradictory to recommend social distancing but keep nurseries open so I think that's what is throwing me off...

It means don't go anywhere unnecessarily. Go to work if you have to, take kids to school, go to shops etc but don't socialise, pubs, dinners etc
It doesn't mean self isolate.

Thank you! I guess it just feels off because I interact with more people via eg work and nursery than I do via the 'socialising' options. But it's still a reduction in terms of interaction i suppose, and that's the point

And if you can manage the interactions you do have...minimal time, large distance, hand cleaning that further reduces risk

Exactly
We aren't on shutdown (yet) and there is an inevitable amount of contact but when it's not necessary for keeping alive, educating the kids or paying the bills then avoid it.
