Scared to go to work

Hi
I have had a couple of days off work. The situation has changed in that time and I’m due to go into work today. I feel so scared about it. Government are advising if we can work at home, we should but my work are saying we need to be in.
I’ve woken up crying. I feel so confused.

OK, OK. First of all, at this stage you are still very unlikely to encounter the coronavirus at work. Secondly, are you a healthy adult under 65? If so, the work from home advice is to protect the vulnerable rather than to protect you. I am in the first trimester of pregnancy, teach at a primary school and am still going in today. The risks are still low. And many people who get it don't even realise they have had it. Try and keep it in perspective.

Thank you. I know you are right. I am normally pretty level headed but this morning anxiety has just floored me.
I hope you stay safe and well. Thank you for being a teacher. People like you are keeping my little ones calm and in routine at the moment.

OP I was the same as you yesterday and went to work. I'll be honest I felt anxious all day but then got home and sort of pulled myself together and feel fine today.

I'm not sure why you say you are very unlikely to encounter the corona virus at work. That's not true. We don't know how many have the virus as they are not testing the general population. Just call in sick until they come to their bloody senses and let staff work from home like sensible caring employers are doing!

Thanks virtual handhold

I felt the same yesterday, I work in a shop and am in a vulnerable category, I'm terrified of going to work, and I'm just hoping that we get put on lockdown soon so I no longer have to go to work, which might sound selfish.. but people aren't taking the new measures seriously and still going shopping and to cafes!

I was an anxious mess yesterday and burst into tears when I got to work, but managed to get it together a bit and was ok by the end of the day.

However, do what you feel is right for you, i would ask again about working from home and if this will be implemented soon if possible.

Thank you. I am asking today. I am dreading the commute, the office environment all it.

Oh please. You can extrapolate from the number of ill. We've got 2.6 thousand diagnosed (hospitalised) cases. We know that about 15% of cases need hospital treatment and a further 5%ish need intensive care- roughly 20%. So the total number of cases should be roughly around the 10,000 mark. But even if you presume that it's four times less dangerous in the UK than elsewhere (for some reason), that's still less than 50,000 cases in the UK currently. In a population of 70 million, you're still unlikely to encounter it at work.
