Relatives stranded abroad

Does anyone else have relatives stranded abroad due to the cancellation of flights? My DD and her partner are in Egypt and were due to fly back to UK at the weekend. There doesn't seem to be any information for them and there are rumours that the hotel will close leaving them with nowhere to stay. Needless to say I am worried but we are in contact by phone and email. I wonder how many people are in the same or similar situation.

Unless they have been advised the flight is cancelled, it will proceed.

I hope it will, but we believe that there are no flights out of Egypt after the 19th. The flights that are leaving up til then are full.

Who is she flying with? Had she called them?

I would be at the airport finding out what is going on

Yes, she has tried ringing the helpline number but no answer. she has looked alternative flights, but all full. The holiday rep either doesn't want to know or doesn't know anything. She has tried to email the British embassy there but email address is invalid. she has tried everything in her power to get information. I am going to try ringing the tour operator from this end today. She says there is a great sense of camaraderie there. She's obviously not the only one on holiday affected by the closure of air space due to covid-19. Anyone else with friends/family stuck abroad, there must be quite a few.

I have friends on holiday in Egypt. All flights have been suspended as of 12 noon Thursday 19th March. Their flight was due Thursday at 16:45. The rep has told them today that they will be on an earlier flight. Still waiting for confirmation of times.

My MIL (a French national) is in NZ on extended worldwide trip. We have been trying to persuade her to come for over a week and she’s been making light of the situation, saying there’s hardly any cases over there. After visiting the French embassy yesterday, she’s now finally acting and has managed to get a flight out on Thursday, via Dubai and London, to Paris. She then needs to get the TGV to Provence, if it’s running by then. It’s costing a fortune but that’s because she left it until the last minute to react. She’s also 65+ and has hypertension & asthma. 🤯
