DC selfishness

Like many others, my job is at significant risk. Looked to see how much UC I could get and it's 180 p/w. My rent is 155. So 25p/w for all food, bills etc. Clearly not manageable. 2 DC, both adults living at home. No partner.

DC1 gets around £600 pm benefits due to MH issues. DC2 just returned from working abroad (due to CV) and had to borrow 1000 from me (the last of my savings) to get home. But he will get 300 p/m UC.

I've never charged them rent or bills, though they do buy their own food. I've taken them on amazing holidays (as adults) they haven't had to pay a penny for. Meals out, takeaways, various other treats all paid by me. I was happy to do it when I could afford it.

Now I tell them I may need help and I get grumpy faces! Stroppiness over the fact they may need to contribute to their own fucking living costs! I'm equal parts angry and disappointed. I'm not sure how we're going to get past this without them having a serious attitude change and quickly.

I was just about coping with everything that is going on but to see the pure selfishness from them when I would happily give my last penny to them, has finished me off.

But you'd get rent help OP....housing benefit. The UC you get is for bills and food...not rent. Not that you're unreasonable AT ALL to expect your DC to help!
