Oddly tight chest (highly unusual) but no other symptoms - is it CV and what would you do?

Self-isolate until sure one way or the other (me, DH, DD)??

Or does CV just never manifest itself this way, even in the v v early days.

I feel fine and dandy, just this very very unusual tightness in chest leading to me coughing occasionally - cough is not persistent as I'm bretahing careful to ensure I don't cough but tight feeling is very distinct.

Has anyone who's had it/knows someone who's had it said it started this way?

It's been 2-3 days of the tight feeling. No other symptoms of any sort at all.

My chest is feeling tight and have developed what I would describe nervous cough. Definitely think mines anxiety related.

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 17/03/2020 23:02

I'm taking this with a pinch of salt as well aware of the confirmation bias effect, however I was drawn to this thread. I've had a similar feeling of tightness in my chest since Sunday, I have no other symptoms. It feels, like a pp said, like a caustic burning but mild not fierce. I also have pain across the whole of my upper back like I have been doing that back machine at the gym ( I definitely haven't!). Sometimes if I take a big exhalation my chest hurts more. I work on a hospital (non clinical) and am still going to work as my organisation is pushing the PHE criteria. A staff member I was in very close contact with on Friday is SI with fever and cough

Nuttyaboutnutella · 17/03/2020 23:08

This is kinda freaky.
I have asthma and admittedly not well managed but have been more consistent with taking my preventer inhaler the last few weeks. Since Friday, ive had a tight chest. No burning, fever, cough, etc but definitely finding it a bit more effort to breathe. My doctor actually changed my inhalers today as my reliever hasn't been doing anything despite taking it every day since Friday.

More than likely just the onset of hayfever or something but definitely watching with interest.

theghostwriter · 17/03/2020 23:10

Same symptoms here, sore throat and slight tightness in the chest. I don't really think it's coronavirus but I'm in a position to stay home anyway. Just dithering over whether to visit my brother tomorrow, he's definitely high risk. On balance I think not, but I'm worried he may need shopping as he has his normal Tesco delivery tomorrow and I'm guessing it won't all be there. Also concerned they may not carry it in for him any more, he won't be able to do that. I want to be there for him but I'm thinking safety first.

Situation not helped by the patronising reaction I got from DH when I tried to talk it over with him. Of course you haven't got it, ridiculous idea... Yes, DH, we're in the middle of a pandemic here but little wifey is naturally over reacting. So it's a relief to see I'm not the only one with concerns. Hopefully we've all got some other seasonal bug, but I'm thinking do the responsible thing and stay away from people.

Notthemessiah · 17/03/2020 23:25

Wife had a 24hr fever with headache and now has the tight chest. I just have a mild sore throat that comes and goes (at the top of my throat), a vague cough (but more the urge to cough) and occasional tight chest, particularly when I breathe deeply. If not for my wife's fever\headache and the two threads here I'd dismiss it as anxiety or something else, but it is concerning me a bit, especially as it's coming up for seven days soon when some people have been said to go downhill if they do have Cv. We are all self isolating because of the brief fever.

Mistymonday · 17/03/2020 23:47

I had exactly this - a tight, congested chest thing with minimal dry coughing for 1.5 weeks, then a week ago it became a proper dry cough Began with a few days of fever and splitting headache.
Now have a cough, constant breathlessness, feeling generally viral and achey/fluey. No phlegm.
Have dodgy lungs since I had whooping cough very young (not asthma or hayfever). I get a cough every time I get a cold. I’ve had flu. Never had anything like this before though! No idea if cv though we suspect it could be.
DP has same. We are isolating.

wherearemychickens · 17/03/2020 23:55

This is me! I feel like I have found my people! Yes, for about a week now I've had a tight feeling in my chest. It's occasionally relieved by burping, but never really goes away, slight tingle in the back of my throat. Never had this before. Occasionally have to take a deep breath to get air in, and coughing sporadically through the day. Am assuming this is the virus and just hoping it doesn't develop any further.

Exhaustedpidgeon · 17/03/2020 23:58

I have this. Is different to anything I’ve ever felt before including anxiety/asthma. I feel rough/headachy too and occasional cough. No temperature. Hubby just has tightness x

Inkpaperstars · 18/03/2020 01:41

I just watched NBC nightly news (USA) on YouTube, and they were interviewing a nurse who has recovered from the virus or nearly has. She said it began with fatigue and a burning feeling in her chest especially when she took a deep breath.

Blackberry2020 · 18/03/2020 05:00

Looks like this is the interview Inkpaperstars means:

There are interviews with her on a few sites, if you search for Lisa Merck nurse.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 18/03/2020 05:42

Thee are my mum’s symptoms...she feels she has it. Is older so the helpline laughed at her and said she would much sicker. Sounds like crap to me

Weepingwillows12 · 18/03/2020 07:35

I have had a tight chest for a week and feeling tired. Breathless just walking around slowly. I have put this down to worry. I dont normally get this with worry but this is a whole new level of worry for me so is most likely. I think there's so much press that I am over monitoring every symptom. I am in self isolation for anyone worried as my child has a fever. It's all so strange.

Minai · 18/03/2020 08:02

I have this too! I have mild asthma which never usually bothers me unless I’m unwell or triggered by dust. Since Thursday I’ve had a heavy tight feeling on my chest and a very slight sore throat. Very occasional dry cough but feel well in myself. Was wondering if it was anxiety as I am very stressed at the moment but I am a very anxious person and I’ve never had this symptom with anxiety before.

poolpoolt · 18/03/2020 08:08

I had this started Friday night
By Monday it had gone.

bathsh3ba · 18/03/2020 08:29

I am getting mild chest tightness in the evening which is unusual for me. No other symptoms but a couple of days ago I did have a sore throat and my temperature was 37.6, so up a bit but not a fever.

However my DDs have both had a low grade fever (varying from normal to 39 but usually hovering around 38.0) for 2 and 4 days respectively now, no other symptoms, so we are in household isolation. I think we could be mildly affected but realistically we don't know. It's very unusual for the girls to have a fever this long though - they feel fine in themselves.

Jerseygaly · 18/03/2020 10:04

Well case in parent at dd school....
I still have chest tightness after 10 days. Hoping it gets better soon as I seem to be at that point.

LinesmanMinnelli · 18/03/2020 10:13

I’m waiting for a call from my gp on this now

Pleasedontdothat · 18/03/2020 10:25

Haven’t read the full thread so don’t know if anyone’s posted this yet but ... as of yesterday, around 44,000 people had been tested in the UK and there are around 2,000 confirmed cases. Obviously that number is increasing and there must be a lot of unreported cases, however the vast majority of people who’ve been tested so far have not had the virus. At the end of any other winter, the kind of symptoms people have been mentioning would be put down to a cold, mild flu, just being run down at the end of winter and anxiety. That’s not to minimise what’s happening but at the moment most people who think they’ve got covid-19 have probably got something else which is much more common

MysteryFrog · 18/03/2020 10:39

I’ve got this too, wondering if it’s the start of something. Toddler has a cough but it seems like a normal snotty mucousy toddler cough that he gets every winter but we’re self isolating any way just in case

sixeightfour · 18/03/2020 10:45

Now feeling tired

Collidascope · 18/03/2020 10:53

Yes! Me too. Had it for about four days now. Tight chest, slightly harder to breathe, and need to cough occasionally. Also had it suggested that it's anxiety, but I've never had this before when anxious. Also had a very stiff neck this morning.
I've been keeping away from people too. Kind of reassuring to know others have it too because I'd started to think I was just imagining it.

LinesmanMinnelli · 18/03/2020 11:01

I have been prescribed diazepam to take when I get an episode. We are reasonably certain it’s anxiety for me

theghostwriter · 18/03/2020 12:37

Pleasedontdothat thanks for posting those figures. It gives a sense of proportion. I'm 99% sure I've got a normal cold. But the 1% is making me wary. Very frustrating as I want to get over and support my brother but I'm trying to follow the advice and keep away from him. I'm then thinking it's not fair to inflict myself on other people either so staying in because I can. It wouldn't be such an easy decision if I had work to go to, and maybe no sick pay to tide me over. Very difficult times for people, we've all got to do the best we can. Best of luck everyone!

StormTreader · 18/03/2020 12:53

I have this too - sore throat for a few days then that went and I've had a really tight chest for a week now - like i'm wearing a bra strap thats too small. Doesn't seem to get worse with exercise, just feels like I have half a lung missing.
No fever or sickness feeling at all though.

wherearemychickens · 19/03/2020 23:39

How is everyone feeling now? I would say the chest has eased off slightly but I'm coughing more.
