Oddly tight chest (highly unusual) but no other symptoms - is it CV and what would you do?

Self-isolate until sure one way or the other (me, DH, DD)??

Or does CV just never manifest itself this way, even in the v v early days.

I feel fine and dandy, just this very very unusual tightness in chest leading to me coughing occasionally - cough is not persistent as I'm bretahing careful to ensure I don't cough but tight feeling is very distinct.

Has anyone who's had it/knows someone who's had it said it started this way?

It's been 2-3 days of the tight feeling. No other symptoms of any sort at all.

I get that it’s highly unlikely without fever etc and huge thanks Linesman for asking your friend!!!

Honestly though I have never had a sensation like it. If I said ‘burning’ that would sound way too dramatic but in a mild way that’s what it feels like; as if I’ve inhaled something caustic

I’m 44 and never remember any symptom feeling like it before in my life

On balance I think best we work off assumption it IS something nasty and self isolate. We’re pretty much staying home anyway. Happy to keep DD off school and we can get by on food we have in plus (hopefully!!!) deliveries

The burning sounds like reflux/gerd to me. Is it between the breast bone? Are you burping more than usual?

FelineUK · 17/03/2020 21:41

Same too - since last Friday, a tight chest, slightly more difficulty breathing than normal - needing to take deeper breaths, and occasional cough. Hubby, however, had a cold last month and still hasn't shaken off his cough from that so I'm wondering if I've picked up something from him... ? No fever etc. My BP is raised also so could well be anxiety.

NarniaBanarnia · 17/03/2020 21:45

Apple, nope it’s higher than breastbone and I don’t think it’s reflux/gerd; I’ve never had even a hint of that in my life before.

Exactly that op
I'm 40.
Never had a heavy chest before. It does come and go.
Mine started with a chill though.
But also dd did have fever slight runny nose and cough the week before I got ill.

Question of how long does this feeling last and will it get better or worse???
I don't have a cough and feeling has been about a week. I do get stressed but think it would be more stomach then.
It does seem to come and go.

Onemorehitandillcrumble · 17/03/2020 21:47

My chest is burning, right at the top of my lungs and a started with an occasional cough this morning and am now coughing arepeatedly. I can’t take a really big lungful or that sets off the coughing, I have to be careful how I breathe. I have a terrible headache that paracetamol aren’t touching. But no temp.
We will be self isolating.

RippleEffects · 17/03/2020 21:54

I have this, also asthma, rarely anxiety and I've lived through a few things that should have made me very anxious.

I've also been a mumsnetter for over a decade. There are often reported symptoms is anyone else suffering from..... always there are responses with people suffering similar.

I have to remind myself that just because coronovirus is out there and never far from my thoughts, it hasnt stopped every other cough, cold and illness.

We probably do all have the same or a similar bug, just not the headline grabbing one.

Minkyscamp · 17/03/2020 21:56

I've got exactly the same thing, like an elephant is sitting on my chest. I've had it for around a week, but it's getting worse. I also have asthma, but it's not been bad for years.

Ive been following the other thread a pp posted above. It's really weird so many people have this.

Jerseygaly · 17/03/2020 21:58

Seems to be mainly asthmatics doesn't it

mimbleandlittlemy · 17/03/2020 21:59

I have it - get it at this time of year every year - all the blossom and daffodils!

Tinydancer123 · 17/03/2020 22:01

I have it also and wondered if hayfever ?

LuckyMarmiteLover · 17/03/2020 22:03

I’ve also had this with a mild cough and slight cold like symptoms for over 2 weeks. I have been thinking it’s anxiety though?

HanaHeya · 17/03/2020 22:16

I have it, have also assumed anxiety but it hasn’t been this bad for years? Had a slight sore throat and felt a bit run down, but this is very usual for me. Glad to know others are similar

HanaHeya · 17/03/2020 22:16

*unusual for me!

sixeightfour · 17/03/2020 22:17

I have it and I haven't been to any high risk countries. I don't have a lot of contact with people either, I'm a cleaner who works part time.

SallyWD · 17/03/2020 22:22

I've had this for 2 weeks! It started with a tight chest only but I've since developed other symptoms: sore throat, burning chest, running nose, headaches, tiredness. It's really getting me down because this has gone on for 2 weeks and is only getting worse, not better. Also it comes and goes so one day I think I'm cured and the next day I feel like death. I checked my symptoms on 111 online and because I don't have a fever or cough they said I don't have corona virus. I've never had an illness like this though. I'm wondering about pleurisy too. All day my chest has hurt so much.

UtterTwaddle · 17/03/2020 22:26

I have the same- tight/painful chest (and upper back), occasional cough, headaches but no fever. My chest can be on the sensitive side as I had severe pleurisy years ago which has left some issues.

TheOwlandThe · 17/03/2020 22:26

I have something like this

Sort of a burny feeling in my windpipe when I breath. And it feels like I am breathing heavier than normal. But I'm not sure if this is because I am focusing on my breathing.

I have coughed once or twice but I have to force it, I try coughing and it's not really happening. But like you I feel like I'm breathing carefully to avoid coughing.

I've felt totally fine in myself, no fever or anything but today I feel really tired.

I'm young and fit and well. Not asthmatic. It's sort of how I'd expect to be breathing in heavy pollution.

I've been getting some reflux, so I'm thinking my symptoms might just all be reflux? I've never had this before though and I do get occasionally reflux.

hoovermyrug · 17/03/2020 22:28

Also has this! Wondering the same!

TheOwlandThe · 17/03/2020 22:29

I ad something similar weeks ago too (back before there were many cases, if any) where it really hurt to breath, and then I was getting out of breath all the time (not normal for me). But again no fever or cough.

coronavirusissueatschool · 17/03/2020 22:41

Same here today. Getting out of breath easily, tingly/weird sensation in my chest. Rapid heart rate (higher than normal, not really fast).

I thought it might be anxiety. No cough at present. Got a bad sore throat though. Achy limbs.

Nothing else. Feel crap.

Murrfect · 17/03/2020 22:43

Yes started with headache sore throat and now a chest.... tightness. It really hurts at night

Thing is it’s not coronavirus symptoms and so I went back to school the day before it was announced that any symptoms mean isolation

Went to HR today - was met with a you look fine do not be off (or else...)

Blackberry2020 · 17/03/2020 22:47

OwlAndThe this sounds like what I've got at the moment, except that I keep clearing my throat a lot. I only really coughed once, a couple of days ago. The breathing has got more noticeable the last couple of days. It started with a mild sore throat (slightly burning would be a good description) and a slightly snotty nose, but not as bad as with a cold. I've been self isolating. When I just had the sore throat and snottiness I could still exercise but since the tiredness and the heavier breathing and breathlessness started I've wanted to stay in bed a lot of the time. Some headaches but not too out of the ordinary for me.

I will be seeking out antibody tests when they become available for non-urgent use. Probably months away at the moment.

Blackberry2020 · 17/03/2020 22:54

There is central nervous system involvement known for coronavirus, but not very well publicised yet. The heavier breathing and increased heart rate would fit with a mild version of that. It is a great shame they are not testing widely at the moment. It would be good to know if the symptoms people are describing here are a mild version of COVID that doesn't fit the current standard descriptions. If there was a pattern of infection with these symptoms, more people would know to self isolate with them.
