Live in London- must be 7 supermarkets within a 10 minute drive of me, I went to 3 today- no meat, no veg, no fruit, no bread- on top of no cleaning products.
What exactly are we supposed to do? I haven’t seen a restocked supermarket in weeks.
FYI I consider all preppers scum!

If your supermarket has stock, Where are you? What time are you turning up to shop?

OP posts:
Thelnebriati · 17/03/2020 21:49

I keep seeing accusations of anxiety from posters who are frothing at the mouth over people acting like responsible adults.

mindproject · 17/03/2020 21:50

Stop worrying about the low-income/unable to prep. I have a very low income, I still managed it - over time. I didn't waste my money on lipsticks and holidays. Sorry if you did, that's not my fault.

IndecentFeminist · 17/03/2020 21:50

Dunno, I'd rather have anxiety back when I can do something about it by prepping than anxiety now I can't buy any food 🤷

Tbh most preppers get the piss ripped out of them a lot...it must be nice to now feel vindicated.

GabsAlot · 17/03/2020 21:51

i went at 6 thi8s morning an hour after our tesco opened-only a few toilet rolls left and bread few bags of penne pasta left everythng else normal stocks

sorry not beans
if you can get there early as poss id say its your best bet

Tana433 · 17/03/2020 21:52

@GreytExpectations I dont believe that the world is going to end, neither am i smug. I also dont have lots of disposable income or lots of space to store extra provisions. What i do have, however are memories of a bad marriage where i never knew whether my DXH would get out of bed and go to work that day and then several years as a one income single parent terrified that i wouldnt be able to feed my children or pay bills so, forgive me if i have a little anxiety about relying on anybody except myself to look after my family.

TeaAndDarkToast · 17/03/2020 21:52

@BanKittenHeels Grin

GreytExpectations · 17/03/2020 21:54

And I think you’re selfish but we can’t all have what want in life.

How am I selfish exactly? I haven't done any panic buying nor prepped. I simply bought what I would normally buy for a week. And next week I will do the same

speakout · 17/03/2020 21:54

I don't prep out of fear or worry , I do it because it saves me time effort and money.
It suits me to have supplies in stock, if I need a new bottle of olive oil or more kitchen roll I just go to my cupboard.
I never run out of stuff, I can take advantage of cheaper prices, it means that if my planned shopping day is overtaken by other demands it doesn't matter, there will always be food to cook.

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2020 21:56

It is ridiculous to think you are better than others because you have cans of beans under your bed.

Ds won't eat beans.

Now pizza. I have enough pizza supplies to last me until Christmas. I like pizza.

I have 4 years of pizza supply for no other reason but to piss off posters who rant about other people's shopping habits.

I'm definitely being selfish to have a full decades worth of pizza hoard because they happened to work out it was a good idea to buy bog roll as people where going nuts in Hong Kong with armed robbers making bog roll heists. And it was pretty obvious if I didn't get a packet in, I'd probably get caught short when everyone went crazy wrestling each other in the middle of Tesco aisle 16.

As for under my bed.

Are you fucking stupid?

When the apocalypse gets going that's the first place burglars will check.

Mind is safety in my nuclear Bunker at the end of the garden. I built it with my bare hards by scrapping out with a tea spoon.

The ones on Mumsnet are the worst with their sneery attitude looking down at people who behave normally. The world isn't ending, get a fucking grip.

Yes I'm obviously the sneery one. And yes clearly I think the world is ending which is why I bought 30 years of freeze dried cheese and pepperoni.

Clearly it was nothing to do with being well informed and aware of the world. Which is something other people really do hate.

mindproject · 17/03/2020 21:56

I haven't have any anxiety at all in the last couple of weeks, I've been really calm. It has been interesting to watch the zombies running around like headless chickens though. That's not my fault either.

BanKittenHeels · 17/03/2020 21:57

How am I selfish exactly? I haven't done any panic buying nor prepped. I simply bought what I would normally buy for a week. And next week I will do the same

Anyone without a contingency for something a likely as disruption to normal activity is selfish because they put a burden on society during a time when it needs it least.

But I’ll go back to being anxious.

GreytExpectations · 17/03/2020 21:57

Eh, I'm not panicking or worried, am social distancing. I have food for this week. The preppers on here are clearly being smug and relishing in their "I told you so" attitude while vulnerable and elderly people suffer is pretty scumful behaviour. But hey, in times like these why should be care about others when we can only care about ourselves, right? Hmm

PurpleCrazyHorse · 17/03/2020 21:58

I prepped for Brexit over about 8 months at the start of 2019, just by adding a few items onto our weekly shop. The reason was that we are on a tight budget and can't afford to be buying lots of expensive branded products if our usual cheaper ones aren't available.

Where we've not been able to buy rice/pasta/loo rolls, we have started to use our Brexit Box supply. We are now self-isolating, so there's no panic that the earliest online shopping date I could get is in 10 days time.

BanKittenHeels · 17/03/2020 21:58

But most preppers are helping the elderly and vulnerable in their community?

GreytExpectations · 17/03/2020 21:59

Anyone without a contingency for something a likely as disruption to normal activity is selfish because they put a burden on society during a time when it needs it least

Nope, that's utter bullshit. I am not taking anything extra at all then what I need for the week therefore no burden is happening.

Willow2017 · 17/03/2020 22:01

I am on a very low income and i was out of work last year for a while. Having an extra 30p bag of rice or spaghetti, some coconut milk or a jelly n my shopping each week soon built up over time. Now i have a small buffer if i am in that situation again and i dont need to worry about feeding my family.

If something is on bogof do you only take one? Doubt it so why should i and what i do with it is my business.
Nobody is saying they are better than anyone but they sure are better morraly than all the people on here who call them "mental", "full of anxiety", "selfish" or "scum". Never heard a prepper telling someone who does things differently to them any of the above. I have seen preppers having to defend themsekves against vitriolic attacks for no readon whatsoever except it makes the other person feel superior. Its like the latest bandwagon on MN to insult people because they are different. Pathetic.

GreytExpectations · 17/03/2020 22:02

But most preppers are helping the elderly and vulnerable in their community?

Nah, they are likly sitting on top of their 2 year supply of cans and toilet roll smugly looking down in the weak ones Grin

mindproject · 17/03/2020 22:02

I hope all you 'the preppers are selfish' people have absolutely no money in the bank, because it's 'selfish' to hoard money when some people have none. It's also selfish to own more than one pair of shoes and selfish to have a spare room and selfish to have more fun than other people.

Devlesko · 17/03/2020 22:02

I enjoy being a prepper OP, we don't have the need to panic buy and empty the shelves for others. I had spare loo roll because when there was no panic, months in some cases years ago, I bought one extra. I'm not taking any off the shelves atm, I have a stash that I'm sharing with my family.
You think of us as scum, if you like.

What is happening is showing the world what a load of greedy bastards people in the UK are. It really is disgusting and embarrassing.
Essential workers can't buy food, and the old people, the ones that are affected the most are only buying their usual shop.

Alsohuman · 17/03/2020 22:04

So people who save a little bit of money every month so they don’t have to worry when the boiler breaks or the car needs new tyres are wrong, are they? Because this is exactly the same thing.

GreytExpectations · 17/03/2020 22:04

OK firstly getting ONE extra item in a BOGOF deal is not prepping, everyone does that as its a good bargain. Jeez, one extra bag of rice is also not prepping. I'm referring to the preppers who hoard piles of dried good on a garage or under a bed in case of the zombie apocalypse. Who the fuck doesn't utilise a BOGOF deal? Or a 3 for 2?

Devlesko · 17/03/2020 22:04

Oh, and we aren't prepping atm, we'll start again when this is all over, ready for the next disaster so DFOD.

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2020 22:04

The preppers on here are clearly being smug and relishing in their "I told you so" attitude while vulnerable and elderly people suffer is pretty scumful behaviour.

People struggle all the time with a lack of food.

That does not mean that a) people aren't looking out for them b) that they are obliged to give away their own security and risk their own wellbeing c) they are particularly well off themselves.

Answers on here are largely to do with the op calling people scum which was always going to create a reaction.

mindproject · 17/03/2020 22:05

And if your TV is bigger than mine, you are a selfish cow. Some old people can't even afford a TV and there you are with all those inches.

Leflic · 17/03/2020 22:07

But prepping means you are only as good as your stock.
And you have to shop again to get it back up.

Luckily my family are farmers. Even in a winter crises there’s meat and potatoes. Coming into spring it’s even better.

I think supermarkets are to blame. Shouldn’t get this bad. Limit hours, numbers and goods.
