To ask if you will still pay your cleaner.......

tootsey · 17/03/2020 15:53

.....if you cancel due to self isolation or through fear. I am a self employed cleaner, and so far I've had two suspension of services from clients. No offer to even part pay for my lost income. Both have no symptoms in household, just don't want to let me in their home.

I will continue to work as normal, as until such times as I can't.

Would like to here from others if you have cancelled or are continuing on with a cleaners service.

We've said we will continue to pay ours whether she comes or not. But we're fortunate to be paid if off sick or in isolation (DH) I'm on mat leave so my pay won't be affected

Slippersandacuppa · 17/03/2020 15:56

I will continue to pay (we are on day 1 of self-isolation). If our work situation massively changes, we may have to rethink but for now I just think that’s fair.

Lovingmylife · 17/03/2020 15:56

I want to pay. DH doesn't.

Cloudhopping · 17/03/2020 15:57

I have a cleaner-we don’t have any symptoms but I have cancelled her this week and I am paying her. We will readdress things when she’s due back in a couple of weeks.

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 17/03/2020 15:58

We are paying even though in quarantine. But DH and I can work 100% remotely, so we are still both working (for now, anyways).

Justtrying · 17/03/2020 15:59

I've had to drop my cleaner down to every other week as I've lost my job which was 70% of our household income. She's a good friend and my main babysitter too so couldn't stop her all together. The gardener however is gone until I'm back in work. If she has to self isolate she will still get paid.

Holidayreservation · 17/03/2020 15:59

We’re in a similar boat - we want to support our cleaner but we can’t have her coming in the house right now due to being in a 70+ household. There’s redundancies looming and our hours have been cut dramatically. We’re thinking of having her run errands for us for a couple of hours a week and paying her for that. Not sure what to do tbh.

Saxineno · 17/03/2020 16:00

I messaged my cleaner last week and said I will continue to pay her if either of us need to isolate. I know her, she's a single working mum, and would struggle if work dried up and I have the money to keep paying.

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/03/2020 16:00

Yes, I will pay. I should be getting paid still. I know her DH is unemployed and she works on a zero hours contract for a clothes retailer. It'll be a worrying time.

leghairdontcare · 17/03/2020 16:00

I'm in a high risk group and today I've cancelled a plumber, an estate agent, mortgage advisor, opticians appointment and, for the next two weeks, the cleaner. Have agreed I will pay as usual and then see what the situation is from that point on.

The Welsh government has announced support for small businesses and hopefully soon England etc will do the same.

Prisonbreak · 17/03/2020 16:01

I’m self employed and I won’t have an income to be able to pay my cleaner so no.

MoonBlood · 17/03/2020 16:03

My OH and I are both self employed. I’m off on maternity at the moment but OHs business is still going strong for the moment. I actually messaged my cleaner this morning and said that if she couldn’t work due to SI or lack of staff etc I would still be paying her what I normally would unless our own circumstances change substantially. I haven’t heard back yet so she must be working as normal today which is a good sign.

Redglitter · 17/03/2020 16:05

If I cancel her then yes I'll pay her. If she cancels me she doesnt get paid. If we go to a lockdown situation I wont be paying her

DowntownAbby · 17/03/2020 16:05

Yes, we will pay.

Completely understandable if you're unable to do so because you're unable to work and not being paid yourself, of course.

DH and a few of his friends were also talking about giving £20 per week each to the pub they normally go to each Friday after work, since they won't be visiting for the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure how much that will help but they've got it into their tiny minds that the world will officially end if that pub goes out of business.

NotSorry · 17/03/2020 16:06

Nope - I’m self employed and currently am not being paid either

YellowPinkie · 17/03/2020 16:06

What does it say in your contract?

RandomMess · 17/03/2020 16:07

We have decided we will pay for the DC activities etc (don't have a cleaner but same principle) for as long as DH are getting paid.

So many people are not in that situation though so if the cleaner doesn't come/classes aren't on they can't afford to pay for them.,

ExtraOnions · 17/03/2020 16:09

Yep, I’ll continuing to have my cleaner come, she relies on that money. If we need to self isolate, I will still pay

nanbread · 17/03/2020 16:09

Yes. We are both still being paid, we're in SI so are asking her not to come for at least two weeks. Tbh I think we might have to ask her to stay away longer. I think we'll keep paying her as long as we are on full pay, as I imagine a lot of her clients will bail. It's crap.

Noworrieshere · 17/03/2020 16:10

We're going to keep paying cleaner and the kids piano teacher if he had to stop, I'm a member of a small gym and I am going to offer pay half my monthly fees. We have decided we will definitely do that for the first month then talk again, but probably carry on.

We can both do our jobs long term from home and have good sick pay policies if need be so we are really fortunate. It feels only right that we share that around a bit when others will be really struggling.

Everyone is desperately thinking up ways to keep going, music teacher has offered Skype classes, gym are planning online classes and challenges, cleaner has offered to do window cleaning or gardening or take laundry away if she can't come into the house.

bubblesforlife · 17/03/2020 16:10

Yes paying her but I'm cancelling her for the next few weeks.
I'm getting paid to sit at home, so she should be too.

Noworrieshere · 17/03/2020 16:11

DH and a few of his friends were also talking about giving £20 per week each to the pub they normally go to each Friday after work

Aww that's really nice. I hope their pub makes it through.

BimbleWimble · 17/03/2020 16:11

I would continue to pay my cleaner if she or we have to self isolate. If it’s a longer term lockdown then I think I would continue to pay her for as long as my income remained unaffected.

Megan2018 · 17/03/2020 16:11

I have cancelled mine. We were probably going to give her up in September anyway so will likely not have her back.
I have offered to pay for the next few weeks but wouldn’t be able to keep paying indefinitely (I’m on mat leave and bow only on SMP- won’t be able to afford her once I have nursery bills).
At some point in the next month or 2 will officially give her notice.

Popuppippa · 17/03/2020 16:13

I am going to let her know there's no illness here and leave the decision to her. I will pay her anyway. I emailed DS's piano teacher to say I would pay her regardless but she has set up skype lessons.

Now is the time to be generous.
