I'm braving the shops...

I'm more than likely going to have to isolate, I have pre existing health conditions and dp has been working in close contact with someone who is now showing symptoms so time to brave the shops before he gets home and infects me.

I'm absolutely dreading it. I don't need much, the freezers pretty much full but the cupboards and fridge are looking bare. Send positive thoughts this way that I can hopefully bag a packet of pasta, some veg and nappies for the kids 😅

Well, I managed Aldi and it's safe to say the human race are a disgrace. No nappies, no chicken, not a piece of pasta to be seen (although loads of sauces and tins of tomatoes/pasatta so apparently everyone's eating dry pasta). Me and an older gentleman both went for the last bananas at the same time and he kindly let me have them after hearing my daughter shouting "NAAAANNNAAAS" in the trolly. I did however spot another bunch further down so held on to them and passed them to the man.

Now off to do a tour of the local Tesco's for some baby milk and nappies

Anything you can't get from the supermarkets try your small local stores. I've found that the smaller local stores have everything in stock albeit pricer

We’ve given up on supermarkets and are going to local corner shops. Heavily inflated prices though.

fatandshatteredfairy · 17/03/2020 17:05

I tried my local ones yesterday for toilet roll (we're on our last 3 rolls and I have ibs) and some spaghetti and it looked like the place had been ransacked but will try again on my way home

The baby got switched on to HIPP milk after stomach issues and it's only really available in the bigger shops. I've heard you can ask chemists to order it in for you, anyone know if that's true?

Government needs to be more difinitive about insisting at risk people stop shopping - yes you think you're being stoic and brave, but when you get it it's the NHS and other people who will suffer because of your bravery. Lots of older people out shopping this morning, some of them even stood outside shops smoking. Words fail 🤷

Went to my local coop. No toilet roll, been like that for ages now. I can’t get any and down to last 3, no pasta, no chicken. No bread.

PeterPanGoesWrong · 17/03/2020 17:42

(Don’t forget pet food, whenTry your local Tesco at opening time.
Our 24 hour Tesco has been closing at midnight to restock. DG and I went on Sunday to pick up the bits that were out of stock on Saturday night.
It’s mental busy but at least you can get lavatory paper, eggs, flour etc. Don’t forget pet food, once the deliveries get really scarce, it’s our cats n digs that will sufffer, human food will be delivered first.

Managed to make it out of Tesco unscathed. And also without toilet roll, pasta and baby milk but at least managed some nappies for the youngest.

It's like the end of the world, not a single pint of milk or bag of rice to be found. Selfish people, if only they just took what they need then there would be enough to go around.

Used the last of my hand sanitizer degerming myself and the kids. Now home to binge Netflix and await the launch of Disney plus 🙃

@PeterPanGoesWrong yeah Tesco then had a sign saying they are shutting between 12-7 to stock up, hopefully those less able and less selfish will get what they need
