UK lockdown... it'd be pretty pointless...

Accoridng to another poster, in France, during lockdown they can leave the house:

  • to go to work
  • to go grocery shopping
  • for medical purposes
  • for very brief time periods to walk a dog or exercise.

So i we go into lockdown, I'll still be going to work, still be buying my groceries and still outside exercising.

Pointless? Surely the point is to isolate everyone?

That's not how lockdown works. You can go out to buy food but only a few people allowed in the shop at a time and you have to keep your distance, same at work, same if you are walking a dog. And a lot of people will be wfh so you will see far fewer people around.

You will also be required to carry a signed, dated and timed declaration of your reason for being out.

Not having this will result in a substantial fine. No weaselling out of it by going shopping at 2.15pm and being stopped at 5pm nowhere near the route to the nearest supermarket (the forms have your address on) and with no shopping in the car.

Exercise is allowed but only if you are alone and not likely to come in contact with any other people.

1m distance between people in all queues.

Only one person per vehicle for shopping.

Not exactly carrying on as normal, and far from pointless.

Well no, that's not the point. It doesn't have to be a binary "all or nothing" approach, and with the right information and expertise, timing and implementation should be phased.
