Social distancing vs helping elderly neighbours

Any ideas or advice on how to balance these two things? I'd like to put a note through my elderly neighbours' doors to offer to help if I can, but then I'm supposed to be limiting my social interactions? How do we do both?

Sorry if that's a stupid question!

You help with practical things and have a chat on the phone if they want to.

We’re mobilising volunteers in the village as we have a very elderly demographic and it’s for non-contact assistance, mainly shopping. It’s going to still be rubbish for the people stuck lonely in their houses but at least they’ll have the supplies they need.

Is pop a not and say - here’s my number if you need anything or a chat. Let me know about groceries, paying bills, walking for dog etc.
