I'm working from home today planning stuff for June but I keep thinking what's the point. I work for a pharmacy chain so I'm lucky I'll still have a job but it just seems such a waste of time

I am wondering how self isolating with 5 x dc is going to be..
And ddogs who need walking.
And how to stock up with minimal cash and shops with bare shelves...

Yep, pretty much anybody working in the UK aviation industry and especially for an airline has very much had that feeling for a few days now.

There's 2 Facebook groups set up locally rallying round to help people who can't get out, might be worth checking your area

I'm trying to mentally prepare for the fact that I may not get to interact with any other human (except maybe the cashier at the shop) in the flesh for several months.

I live alone - normally with my daughter, but she's with her dad and is staying there. All my family is abroad.

Today it's "standing in my kitchen in only my underwear and making myself coffee as I speak with my boss over Teams"

But I've a feeling that the perks are going to get old really fast and I'm dreading being so isolated!

The economic impact is going to be huge.

I think it's beginning to dawn on people that it's important and we need to care about it. It's not heartless, quite the opposite

But looking at the European countries whose outbreaks are a couple of weeks ahead of us. We're not going to have a choice about most of the restrictions soon.

Positives, though (compared to Spanish flu, for example)
We have a vaccine in the pipeline
We have internet and access to information from home
We can communicate with each other in real time - video chats to keep up, social media, etc
Some jobs can be done from home

@Figgygal an estimated 250,000 Brits could die from this on top of the usual annual death rate of around 500,000. It’s not nothing. All of it is ahead of us so we need to stay safe.

Yes its exactly how I feel as I continue to work in the NHS, with insufficient PPE already, whilst others around me are working from home. It does not feel heroic like those band members though, it actually just feels ridiculous.

I work for a charity as a fundraiser and fundraising has all stopped.

I felt like this yesterday going about the normal bedtime routine reminded me of the scene where a couple just get ready for bed and go to bed and the water starts filling up around them.

I keep remembering snippets from different virus/apocalyptic/end of days type films where people off themselves because it's easier than facing the future or people just isolate in the country somewhere to try to wait it out.

Feeling very maudlin today

Hand gelled- up I have been to the shops.
No bread or bakery items .
No milk-not even uht .
No pasta.
No loo roll.
No meat.
No crackers.
Had to argue to buy 7 tins of cat food.
2 dcats share 1 tin per day - so just a week's supply..
Bit scarey tbh...

Supermarkets are closing at 10 /12 pm and reopen at 6 am. Hopefully can get basics then. We have none of my above list left...

It's very scary but we must work out how we can pull through this and create a stable future for our children. The ecomonic impact could be awful but there must be a way to adapt and rebuild.

Funnily enough that was the exact phrase I was using earlier today even trying to explain why I couldn't concentrate. My job is research/consultancy into social policy. I think what we do is valuable and useful and I'm well set up to work from home. But it's not something the world needs urgently. It's about long term strategy and making small improvements to services which are about to crash. I just can't focus on it whilst the world around me is falling apart.

I had to go into the office today to sort a few things out, left with all the stuff I need to work from home.

Went in to a different room to say bye to everyone and it was horrible, felt like 'see you on the other side if we make it'. Can only say that it felt like a war had started.

I do. I'm a teacher in a college and I really want to hide away in my house but I have to go into work and send my kids to school. I sent a student home because she said her daughter had been off school with a cough and temperature- she didn't realise the whole family had to stay indoors (English is not her first language) and she was astonished that I made her go.

I am teaching tomorrow daytime and then I'm seriously considering keeping the children at home. Most of my friends are now WFH.
