14 day self isolation - exercise?

Am I mistaken or did he say if you’re isolating you can still go out for exercise? I’m assuming going for a walk in an area where you know you won’t see anyone is ok? Or if you do, you keep your distance e.g. a dog walker.

Pretty sure he said stay in the house and only leave if you absolutely have to.

poshme · 17/03/2020 07:13

Yes you can go out- walk the dog etc. But stay away from people.

Treaclepie19 · 17/03/2020 07:13

It does say online if you're self isolating you can go for walks. I checked earlier.

MozFan · 17/03/2020 07:15

Thanks, it’s an awfully long time for my 18 month old to stay in the house and we have no garden. We won’t go anywhere near people. Will try and stick to rural areas.

You can go for walks but don’t touch stuff like gates (or clean hands afterwards) and stay at least 2m away from people.

The official advice from the government/NHS says don't go for walks

Here's the link to the stay at home advice for more info: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/

Treaclepie19 · 17/03/2020 07:36

@ApplestheHare gosh it does. I was sure I'd read it on the NHS site, must have been another one. Sorry for spreading misinformation 😳

peanutbutterandfluff · 17/03/2020 07:40

The official advice says no, but BJ and Matt Hancock are being quoted in the media as saying yes it's okay if you stay away from others

I'm in self-isolation due to having a cough (mild) and my 1-year-old having a fever. I'd love to go for a run at 5am but who knows if that's allowed

GreyishDays · 17/03/2020 07:42

I have definitely read that walks and jogging is fine.
Also, it clearly is ok, if you avoid others.

Bimbleberries · 17/03/2020 07:44

yes the main government site did say it was fine to go outside for exercise, even if you were having food/medications brought to you. Just that you had to avoid everyone else while doing it.

Bimbleberries · 17/03/2020 07:44

That wasn't for people isolating because they were actually ill, though. It was those isolating for their own protection, and possibly those who were isolating because others in the household had symptoms.

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/03/2020 07:46

I’m at home with a cough right now. I normally go for a run every morning but now I’m doing a YouTube work out. (Bloody hell its harder than a run!)

Kateplaysrugbyinmydreams · 17/03/2020 07:47

Ok we haven't become Medusa like and infecting each other with our gaze. A run at 5am or a rural walk or a stroll round the block isn't going to harm anybody unless you mug somebody and breathe on them.

Kids need exercise, so do adults and we all need vitamin d. Get out in moderation and sensibly.
