I know this is AIBU and I have also put this in the right section, but this is terrifying and needs traffic. This doctor’s account of the now non use of PPE is terrifying and ties in with the first hand account of a patient who started a thread here on Mumsnet.

Please write to your MPs about this as surely this is something the government could sort out quickly.

This is shocking. Why are we dealing with this so differently to the rest of the world?

Fatted · 17/03/2020 05:46

Is this really government advice though or incompetence at a local level at one hospital? Where is the response from said hospital or health minister? Or does this not fit with the agenda of the article?

I have relatives in the NHS who are using the PPE. Hence my questioning of the article.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 17/03/2020 05:58

I think it’s Public Health England guidance probably based on there not being enough PPE.

This article talks about it as well.

I genuinely believe the government are happy to kill off the old and vulnerable. Goes hand in hand with their approach to benefits.

FourTeaFallOut · 17/03/2020 06:06

I wrote to my mp last week. I got back an identikit email which covered most of the questions which people ask and which failed to answer my own. He clearly isn't reading them.

News says mathematical modelling of the disease was produced by Imperial College in the last few days, hence the change of policy.
Self-isolate if you are so worried.

AlternativePerspective · 17/03/2020 06:09

Reported. The coronavirus topic exists to keep all this stuff out of active, and people have it hidden precisely to avoid having to read it all over active. And no, “I posted in AIBU for more traffic” isn’t valid reason. Angry

HelgaHere1 · 17/03/2020 06:10

Why is someone else always to blame. Be proactive and help yourself. Wailing that someone else is causing your problems is a bad attitude for your own wellbeing and sanity.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 17/03/2020 06:31

I think the more people are outraged about this, the better. It’s gone way beyond worrying about which board this is on IMO.

Self-isolate if you are so worried.. I am not worried about me, I am worried about NHS staff.

Be proactive and help yourself.

I don’t need PPE but doctors and nurses do.

Genuinely don’t understand people’s responses to this. If Mumsnet move this so be it but at least more people might have seen this in the meantime.

mathematical modelling of the disease sounds like the government’s excuse. Why wouldn’t you take the utmost precautions on behalf of your frontline staff?

So irritating. Post it in the right place.

Jespers · 17/03/2020 06:48

YANBU at all, the old advice would have caused upwards of 250k deaths- I have NO faith in our government strategy

Snoozysnoozy · 17/03/2020 06:48

Thanks your time foil hat off. The Tories are hardly likely to:

Kill of the people most likely to vote for them.
Be seen to be killing off people therefore losing more voters in the process.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/03/2020 06:51

Please keep this to the Coronavirus topic.

There is more than enough out there and your threads only adds to the panic.

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 17/03/2020 07:05

Unfortunately, I suspect there is a limited supply of the equipment. Yes I’m an ideal world everything needed would be available, unfortunately it isn’t.

Wanting what is ideal, but not there is not going to make things magically appear. It’s about as useful as WHO’s only advice being “test test test” when there clearly isn’t enough tests or testing capacity at the moment. (Mind you WHO base their whole existence on wishful thinking)

As Macron says, we are at war. Every war ever fought suffers from equipment shortages. I am sure everyone involved is trying their best, and making v difficult decisions.

Unfortunately this is going to get much much worse before it gets better. Isolation will not get rid of the disease only slow it to allow the health authorities across the world to try and cope.

People need to get their heads around the fact life is different now. We can’t solve this through outrage, equipment will not magically appear, all we can do is try snd preserve the resources we have.

I know there is no point railing against what is done but this would be hilarious if it were not so tragic. Imperial College London, the world class centre for modelling has only realised this in the last few days. The rest of the world ( mostly South East China) have been saying this for more than a month

ooooohbetty · 17/03/2020 07:14

The government wouldn't want to kill off old people. That's where they get their votes from Grin

Alwaysreadyforbed · 17/03/2020 07:20

dysonfury

It’s a cross party decision. So let me hear you say Labour, SNP are killing people off...
