Year 6 DS, Self Isolation, Teaching Resources

Despite schools not being closed, we have (reluctantly) decided to keep our Year 6 DS home from school. Tough call between reducing virus risk and maintaining education, but here to discuss mitigation.

Are there any good Year 6 resources, linked to the state school curriculum that I can work through with him?

Even better, are there online classes; that other closed schools or teachers might be offering. I'm thinking google hangouts / skype style teaching. One teacher, many students, follow along at home?

Perhaps because we have pre-empted school closures, nothing like this exists.

Grateful for any advice on materials/classes.

Thanks.

We're keeping my Year 6 DS home too.

No idea how good these are but I get ads on Facebook about them all the time:

DP's done a list of resources for the DC, I'll post the list tomorrow.

I asked DS and 7yo DD what they thought of homeschooling and it ended up in a really productive chat where they made loads of suggestions, I was really impressed. And it included a lot of stuff I wouldn't have thought of.

I have friends who homeschool, and I'm going to take a lead from them. A lot of formal school time is taken up by organising the sheer number of kids there. 1 teacher to 30 kids.

If you're home edding, you don't need to be nearly so formal, or spend so much time to get the same amount of work done. So I'm going to let DS spend a fair bit of time on projects of his choosing - e.g. he loves animating - as well as the more formal stuff.

Sign up to twinkl, it's a site a lot of teachers use. They're doing free downloads on home learning packs, including year 6 sats prep (if sats will even happen, who knows)
