Ocado delivery question

phoria · 16/03/2020 21:56

I've finally managed to get a slot among the coronavirus panic but it's a week away. Does that mean things that are in stock when I ordered (but then become out of stock soon afterwards) will definitely be delivered or is is just if it's in stock when it comes to the time of delivery? Has anyone received an order from them recently? Did it have everything you ordered or was it full of substitutions?

We have been using Ocado ever since they started and have never yet had a substitution. Once you order, I believe that the stock is allocated to your order for that delivery. This is why you pick a delivery slot first ...

Wr are in interesting times , so who knows what will happen but so far, no subs for us from Ocado.

SavoyCabbage · 16/03/2020 22:02

My Saturday order had no substitutions. They are pretty good as there are no physical shops so they are more in control of their sctock than supermarkets. However, who knows at the moment as it will be difficult to know what’s happening with supply chains.

goingoverground · 16/03/2020 22:07

Ocado are usually pretty good because everything comes from a warehouse. They know what they have ordered to the warehouse from suppliers so what is shown online will be in stock and reserved for you on the day of your delivery unless they have issues with the supply chain. Unlike in shops where someone could come in off the street and buy all the tins of tuna before your order is picked.

It's not infallible because deliveries to the warehouse can get delayed, suppliers can have issues or stock damaged in transit but it is a lot better than orders from high street supermarkets.

I've only had one substitution over the past few weeks. I also do DM's order for her and she hasn't had any recently.

I’ve received everything bar one item

theanswerisnoo · 16/03/2020 22:09

No guarantee. I booked a delivery for tonight 2 weeks ago. Nothing unusual on the order, but I had a text at midday saying they've cancelled it. I've been a regular customer for about 10 years.

WineAndTiramisu · 16/03/2020 22:09

My order that arrived Friday had one missing item (hot cross buns) and two substitutions that were essentially the same things so not a problem.

How long did you have to wait online to get a slot @phoria? we just gave up as no progress. good to hear slots are only a week off.

INeedNewShoes · 16/03/2020 22:10

I had a shop delivered last night and the only missing item was a carton of UHT milk I'd ordered.

Ocado are generally quite reliable. In normal times I very very rarely have an missing items.

Borington - The website was down for a few hours and then I was placed in a virtual queue for a while but there were slots for a week's time. I checked last night and there were slots free for the 25th (in London). I also checked Sainsbury's (no delivery slots at all), Asda and Amazon Now (no toilet roll!).

Sorry to hear that theanswerisnoo! What a nightmare. I'm slightly panicked as I live alone and don't have much storage so never buy more than a few days of food at a time so if we were suddenly to go into lockdown I wouldn't have much. I did manage to get some things today in the shops though just in case.

Also I've been editing my order afterwards so I hope that doesn't mess up the things I've originally ordered that I still want (but which might now be out of stock).

Editing your order shouldn't risk items that you originally placed in the basket and 'checked out'. Until you check out again Ocado doesn't officially register the changes in your basket - this keeps your original items safe but means you always have to remember to check out again if you edit the order. I fell asleep on Saturday night half way through editing my order Hmm

phoria · 16/03/2020 22:56

OK phew! Fingers crossed we don't go into lockdown before then!
