Mortgage email sent to tenants rather than owners

Today I got an email from our estate agent.

In a nutshell

'Please contact your mortgage provider as there's a good chance you may not have to pay it for the next few months. Don't worry about rental payments, your tenants will still be required to pay rent as normal (cheeky faced emoji).

If you believe your tenants will require benefits to top up their income, let us know. We have a long waiting list of eligible tenants that will not be affected by the Coronavirus (another cheeky emoji).

The idiot that sent the email accidentally sent it to all tenants rather than landlords

What the ACTUAL FUCK!

I'm hoping somebody is going to tell me I'm being unreasonable.

We've had a hard few months. Luckily enough, DP can work from home with his new job, around the kids if necessary.

This isn't right though is it?

What a very very silly mistake. Keep it for evidence if you need it.

That’s awful wtf were they thinking
Forgetting that it was sent to the tenant which is ridiculous anyway... the content is inappropriate!!! Emojis!! Fgs

You need to escalate this as a complaint. It’s just inappropriate and stands to create Ill feeling

Jesus Christ. This is horrendous. I'm genuinely disgusted.

Name and shame them. Cunts.
Good luck to their business in a recession.
If I was a landlord, and had the means, I would waive rental for a few months.

That's awful. I'm sure there are rules about blatant profiteering. Is there some kind of professional body they can be reported to? Or the press.

Send it to your local shitrag

Report
OhCaptain · 16/03/2020 21:34

If actually send it to a shit rag! That’s disgraceful!

Report
katsucurry · 16/03/2020 21:35

That's actually disgraceful. I'd doubt a complaint would get anywhere with the morals but I'd definitely let then know how you're feeling!

Report
MistyMinge2 · 16/03/2020 21:36

That is disgusting. What utter arseholes. I'd be getting them in as much shit as possible.

Send it to shelter as well - blank out your names and get it on Twitter

Report
DarklyDreamingDexter · 16/03/2020 21:37

That’s appalling. Defo send it to the local paper. Shame them publicly.

Report
LangSpartacusCleg · 16/03/2020 21:37

Send it to the Daily Mail! Please!

Twitter is a good idea, especially if the EA is on there. Tweet @ them and ask if they have any comment.

HotChoc10 · 16/03/2020 21:37

Absolute wankers. Share it, shame them.

I can't name and shame, our tenancy is due for a renewal and were at the negotiation stage because their options are 12 months or 24 months. Were hoping to buy in 6 months.

The audacity of it.

Is there anywhere I can report it to confidentially? This isn't right.

I've considered sending the email to the DM but they'd need confirmation of who I am, surely?

There's a property ombudsman. Think you have to complain directly to the agents first though and then take it to the ombudsman if you aren't happy with their response.

There is an Professional association for estate agents, send it to them and your local paper and social media is your friend.

Report
DarklyDreamingDexter · 16/03/2020 21:41

Still send it to the paper but remove any information which identifies yourself. You can also give them an anonymous quote saying how horrendous you find it. Say that you are a tenant and can’t identify yourself for obvious reasons, I think they will still be interested.

You know you can just not sign a new tenancy and move to periodic automatically right? They only want you to sign a new tenancy for the fee they charge the landlord.

I would just reply back to them asking for a rolling contract with a break clause for you only, no fees, and no change in rent. If they quibble offer to share their email.

Do it anonymously.
Don't send it to the daily mail though- they are scum.
