Mortgage email sent to tenants rather than owners

Today I got an email from our estate agent.

In a nutshell

'Please contact your mortgage provider as there's a good chance you may not have to pay it for the next few months. Don't worry about rental payments, your tenants will still be required to pay rent as normal (cheeky faced emoji).

If you believe your tenants will require benefits to top up their income, let us know. We have a long waiting list of eligible tenants that will not be affected by the Coronavirus (another cheeky emoji).

The idiot that sent the email accidentally sent it to all tenants rather than landlords

What the ACTUAL FUCK!

I'm hoping somebody is going to tell me I'm being unreasonable.

We've had a hard few months. Luckily enough, DP can work from home with his new job, around the kids if necessary.

This isn't right though is it?

We've had a lot of work experience kids at my work place. This is the only reason I can come up with. Maybe they've had the same doing the duties of those self-isolating? They've been brilliant until now.

I've never spoken to my LL's directly, would it be worth contacting them anonymously to ask for their say?

@Pipandmum this is what concerns me...is it real? Is it a funny draft message meant for landlords? I really don't know. Either way, it was sent to the wrong person. Our neighbours have the same LL's and we see them in the mornings. I'll ask them if they've had the same email x

You don’t need to contact anyone anonymously - no need to top toes around this.

Pick up the phone and let them know they have a serious communication (and intelligence) problem with a member of their team.

SnoozyLou · 17/03/2020 00:35

Send it to your local shitrag

Or the Mirror

SnoozyLou · 17/03/2020 00:36

Twitter is a brilliant idea as they can't remove it.

TiddyTid · 17/03/2020 00:46

Anyone who takes a mortgage break needs to realise if will affect their credit score so I doubt if a landlord has to do this they'd find a winky emoji remotely funny, let alone their tenants. Estate agents are such cunts.

muminlondon2020 · 17/03/2020 00:48

Twitter name and shame them

HollowTalk · 17/03/2020 12:30

Mortgage breaks won't affect your credit score in this situation, surely? There will be millions of families doing it.

Itwasntme1 · 17/03/2020 13:08

Hollow I think it depends on the individual owner and how the classify the arrangement. It is something which should be clarified before entering into any arrangement.

Itwasntme1 · 17/03/2020 13:08

Individual lender that should have read.

LASH38 · 17/03/2020 13:12

I’m not an expert but isn’t this also a GDPR Breach?

Mammatino · 17/03/2020 13:17

Absolute shit heads. I very much doubt that they have a list of ready and willing prospective tenants waiting in the wings at this time. I really would be hiding my details and sending this to everyone I could think of including their competitors... You know so they can be ready and willing to sweep in and pick up the landlords when this estate agent goes out of business. They are trying to drive business, basically the housing market is holding its breath like everyone else. I know two people in my little country village in the North who have taken their houses off the market. No sales no fees. Pricks.

dodgeballchamp · 17/03/2020 13:24

OP I’m a BBC journalist. Outing myself but w/e. If you want to PM me I’m happy to look into this for you

Jocasta2018 · 17/03/2020 13:25

Do you have an email address for your landlord? Forward the email to them and see how they react - they're the ones employing the agency.
Complain to the agency.
Then twitter if no decent response....

MaggieFS · 17/03/2020 13:28

Do they have an ombudsman or regulator?

kissmewherethesundontshine · 17/03/2020 13:39

100% make that viral (then NC here!)

GemmeFatale · 17/03/2020 14:11

I used to be a landlord. If I received this email I’d be switching agent

Chouxalacreme · 17/03/2020 14:16

This is exactly what I suspect will actually happen anyway !!

EvilPea · 17/03/2020 17:08

Absolute scum bags.
I rent and have also accidentally been sent emails too. But nothing like this... they were just slagging my landlord off in a reply to all email we were all in on.

Yes take this further with anyone that will losten

TheReluctantCountess · 17/03/2020 17:10

Did your neighbour get the email too?

LetMeIn321 · 17/03/2020 18:25

This is CRAZY!!! Unless it's some kind of scam email? But if this is real, they need to be EXPOSED! Scum bags!
