My mum is 78 and has pulmonary fibrosis and is terminally ill. She is on full time oxygen and quite poorly.

I do a fair bit for her, she lives with my dad who does the bare minimum and is also 78, he can go shopping and gets the weekly shop in, he is in reasonable health.

I've tried to explain that minimal social contact means no visits, ie the hairdresser coming to her house, the cleaner and me and my daughter visiting.

I work in an open plan office with 100 people. We have no hand sanitiser and the cleaning is poor. Daughter is school age.

Mum refuses to believe visitors are a risk if we keep 3 feet apart. I know she will be feeling isolated but surely it's too risky for her to still have visitors in the house. I'm happy to drop things off etc, but she wants me to carry on as before.

So who is right please and if its me, how can I convince her!

If she's of sound mind, all you can do is explain the advice and the risk; I'm having a similar issue with my MIL. :(

Well you are. You will be a risk to her.

But you said it yourself - she is terminally ill. How long realistically does she have? And does she want to sacrifice seeing her child and grandchild during that time in order to gain a bit more time?

In your shoes I would stay away for the next few days. It is looking like schools will close soon anyway. In which case you may be much less of a risk to her. Things are changing so fast that we can only make judgements for a day or two at a time.

My mum's the same. She is planning on self isolating after Sunday as she has so many things to do beforehand. There is no speaking to her about this. 😔

Oh FFS! Today mum went to

Pilates
Aquafit
Sainsbury’s
Argos

But she didn’t have coffee with her friends so she is social distancing!
