Nothing has been told it has to close. People have just been told to
"avoid" pubs, theatres, restaurants.

On Radio 4, they interviewed two people from the theatre industry. All UK theatres will close from tonight, as it's the right and sensible thing to do. But because they haven't been forced to close, they can't claim on insurance.
A tweet was shared on Twitter earlier by a pub landlord. He's probably facing ruin as he's have no customers, but if he closes, he can't claim on insurance because he hasn't been forced to close.

It's utterly shit Angry

It’s terrible

catnidge · 16/03/2020 20:39

Probably because they don't fund the tory party.

BuckingFrolics · 16/03/2020 20:45

Ah the misery of a Tory government. Who on earth voted for them? It's not like we didn't know they are venal self interested callous not why grabbing brutes.

MyuMe · 16/03/2020 20:45

Why hasn't he sealed the border and only allow British nationals to return home

Hungary has done that with only 30 confirmed cases.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/03/2020 20:48

Boris and his disgusting cronies have far more friends in finance & insurance than they do in the arts.
What do you expect?

Bluntness100 · 16/03/2020 20:50

Gosh does he have to say everything at the conference? It’s all been announced.

People who are not working will be able to claim immediately. No waiting six weeks.
People will be given mortgage holidays of at least three months if not working,
Businesses will be given a way back. So they close their doors for three months, and it’s held for them, they claim in the meantime and then re open when it is over.
Interest rates have been slashed so any repayments due can be minimised.

carly2803 · 16/03/2020 20:51

because saint bozza gives exactly no shits about us normal people. He still gets paid. Why should he and his cronies care about us normal folk?

Screamqueenz · 16/03/2020 20:53

It's so the insurance industry doesn't have to pay out and they don't get the blame for people being made redundant.

KeepYourWigOn · 16/03/2020 20:58

Is this a joke? You do know Italy, Spain, France etc. all have the same policies in place. No doubt it's all an evil plan by them aswell? Do you honestly think people should still be out in the bars and cafes? This is serious and requires serious measures, and I say that as someone whose business will be seriously affected.

Mincepies76 · 16/03/2020 21:01

He can't do right for wrong! Everyone criticising him because schools aren't closing now. Suggests curbing social contact in pubs etc and criticised for that!

Hotchox · 16/03/2020 21:01

@Bluntness100 - I think the main thing these business owners are worried about is that if they aren't ordered to close, they can't claim any loss of earnings insurance, but they'll be effectively made to close, and will therefore not be getting any income. Double whammied.

Of course, frankly, if every business that was ordered to close claimed insurance, then the insurers would likely go bust anyway....

souldivachakkakahn · 16/03/2020 21:16

@Bluntness100 if that is the case then I'll hold my hands up. Is there a guarantee in place by the government that those businesses will be bailed out?

@KeepYourWigOn of course I think the places should close, that wasn't my point. My point was that the government have only suggested people avoid those places, not that they have to close. So they can stay open ergo not claim on insurance, but will be have no custom so make no money so go out of business.
