To be more confused after BoJo's press conference than I was before it?

I watched all of today's press conference as i have family members who fall into at risk groups.

The guidance before today was clear to me- self-isolate for 7 days if continuous cough or fever

but now I am not at all clear what it all means. That started with not even being clear at what time the press conference would actually take place!

Surely in a time of global crisis our government should, above all, aim to communicate their plans clearly with specific guidance?

AIBU?

BovaryX Oh you again. Are you actually Dominic Cummings?

BovaryX · 17/03/2020 12:52

A much more glamorous version.

twinnywinny14 · 17/03/2020 12:58

he didn't actually say vulnerable, pregnant and those over 70 have to stay in for 12wks though did he? he said they should pay extra attention to the social distancing advice and that nearer the weekend those how are really unwell will be given further advice about how to protect themselves for 12 wks

twinnywinny14 · 17/03/2020 13:01

I know of 3 people who have been contacted by their nhs staff and advised to self isolate for 12 wks ( 2 x Cystic fibrosis and 1 x cancer patient)

GinandGingerBeer · 17/03/2020 13:22

The part that was unclear was the 12 weeks isolation, even the BBC got it wrong and I screenshot their incorrect advice. They have continued to quote their own incorrect advice today. So enough of the snippy comments.
Those who fall under the 'qualify for a flu jab' category should strongly follow the social distancing advice. (Which includes to work from home, what about all the poor sods who can't who work in high risk & customers facing jobs?)
Those with severe health conditions (categories yet to be confirmed) should follow the 12 weeks isolation advice from "the weekend"

The clinical director for diabetes on Twitter last night was unable to clarify until today what exactly it meant and for whom.

There are some arseholes on here, who didn't actually put any valid clarification across, just slated everyone. Shame on you.

But in the UK, lots of people think Nanny State and Uncle Sugar are always there to dole out the sweeties.

Such a horrible way to talk about working people with pre existing medical conditions. People who are having to make the very scary choice of going to work and possibly contracting a deadly (for them specifically) virus; or not going to work and possibly not being able to afford rent/food.

The government not putting mandatory paid leave in place means that many more people in low-paid jobs will put themselves in harm's way in order to feed their families. How will that flatten the curve?

I think we are all starting to realise that healthcare workers, social care workers, the emergency services and even supermarket workers and delivery drivers are a lot more essential than highly paid individuals who think that paying a small amount of tax to provide for chronically ill people is being 'uncle sugar'.

Have some empathy BovaryX

GinandGingerBeer

That is it exactly.

They have not been clear, and as you say, what about the poor sods (me) who is customer facing and can't work from home? I'm in no man's land now, waiting to see if I'm one of the high risk people who will be contacted at some point. My GP thinks I am but doesn't know for sure.

If I'm not in the highest risk group I will be in the high risk group and so the advice is social distancing which is impossible when I'm at work.

And thank you Wallowinginfilth. You actually get it.

twinnywinny14 · 17/03/2020 14:15

I now know of several school staff with underlying conditions who have either been sent home today or told to finish today following the advice

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/03/2020 14:20

The NHS website is now saying that your gp will contact you from 23 March if you are considered to be in a high risk group. I'm currently not sure if I am or not...
@reenon no they are not contacting people on high risk groups they are contacting people in the seriously high risk group, cancer patients, people with no spleen, people on dialysis, transplant patients those kind of people.
Other moderate high risk groups asthma, diabetes etc etc will not be contacted.

Wannabangbang · 18/03/2020 10:04

Hear hear wallow

Wannabangbang · 18/03/2020 10:06

Bovary you okay?
Wonder if you are Theresa May herself, it wouldn't suprise me.
Don't talk if your fellow humans with such hatred. I fear for humanity with attitudes such as yours circulating. Now go back to eating of your golden spoon!
