Mothers Day

We were planning to go to my DS's for mothers day, would be my sister, brother in law, niece, mother, husband and son.

In view of Gov recommendations of essential travel and socialising only, would you still go? It's at her home rather than a restuarant. I don't think we should, but my mother thinks I'm being silly, as none of us has got it!!

No, it’s not essential contact. It should be cancelled.

ILoveGroot · 16/03/2020 20:22

That was my feeling, but my mother was very upset, and my DS thinks I'm overreacting Angry

I've just come to the conclusion we shouldn't go out for a Mother's Day meal. DH and I are both high risk. It's sad but the aim is to be still around to do it next year! How about if you frame it as 'postponing till things are better'?

MsChatterbox · 16/03/2020 20:25

I am pregnant and just cancelled my mum and brother coming over for mother's day!

PurpleDaisies · 16/03/2020 20:25

Risk is irrelevant. Everyone has been told to stop all non essential social contact.

Lotuscup563 · 16/03/2020 20:36

How do they know ‘none of us has got it’? Has everyone been tested recently....as you can have it and spread it with no symptoms whatsoever

ILoveGroot · 16/03/2020 20:38

That was exactly my point, I really don't want to spread it around my family, but they have made me feel really silly!

I would go..

We've just cancelled our mothers day meal in a local restaurant. Up until today we were all planning on still going (all 15 of us) but the advice given this evening was very clear. No non essential social contact.

Unfortunately my work place is choosing to ignore much of the advice and is expecting us all in tomorrow - despite the vast majority of us being able to work from home.

It'll be my first Mothers day and we've cancelled everything Sad I'm gutted but when this all blows over we will have a not Mother's Day celebration
