Idris Elba has it

Didn't see another thread on this so sorry if it's already been posted.

Idris Elba has been tested and confirmed positive for COVID-19. Most worryingly he has no symptoms at all, even now, and only tested (presumably privately) because he found out he came into contact with someone who had also tested positive.

This is pretty scary, that people with no symptoms could be carrying on as normal and spreading it around Confused

I will selflessly offer to nurse him.

Barracker · 16/03/2020 19:32

Wow.

A disproportionate number of celebs and public figures seem to have it.

It strongly suggests it's becoming quite prevalent in the general population.

millerjane · 16/03/2020 19:33

HowDoesTheCow - get in line (behind me)!

HowDoesTheCow · 16/03/2020 19:35

On a serious note, I presume the slebs insurance companies are insisting on and paying for testing hence the information. I wonder how many other non-symptomatic ordinary people also would have it if they were tested.

Goawayquickly · 16/03/2020 19:36

Yes I saw this, I wondered if he’d been in contact with many since he’s had it, a film set maybe, an award ceremony perhaps and I know he DJ’s too. This virus is quite obviously everywhere, absolutely everywhere.

Frouby · 16/03/2020 19:37

I know limited first aid except for remove clothing. I am happy to help him.

This.

Hey, I found out first, I call first dibs on playing nurse! Grin

He said his wife hasn't been tested but presumably she's in self isolation with him (she was next to him in the video and definitely not two metres away, don't blame her Grin )

It's the fact that he has zero symptoms. It's proof, to me anyway, that government guidance to self isolate only if you start to present is bollocks.

The sooner there is a test to show past infection (ie immunity) the better

We really have no idea how many asymptomatic or extremely mild cases there are.

Zacharyezrarawlings · 16/03/2020 19:44

I really think that a lot of people with have extremely mild symptoms which they may not even notice. In some ways this is good because it means it isnt "just" a serious illness but the obvious downside is that these people will be out spreading it.

Zacharyezrarawlings · 16/03/2020 19:44

I genrally think that lack of testing in the UK is one of the biggest failings currently.

Sparklfairy · 16/03/2020 20:03

Agreed @Zacharyezrarawlings. I know it costs money but surely in the mid to long term it saves strain on the NHS, as without testing clearly people have it and are spreading it around but have no idea.

Eckhart · 16/03/2020 20:22

We've been told from the start that people could spread the virus without exhibiting symptoms. Rich people can choose to be tested because they don't have to rely on the NHS.

There are no surprises here, and it's 'a disproportionate amount of rich people seem to have it'.

ThanosSavedMe · 16/03/2020 20:26

Obviously we will need a rota system to look after him. Please this post as confirmation that I’m signing for a shift or 10 😁

JoJothesquirrel · 16/03/2020 20:42

We’re in isolation here anyway, he might as well come and stay. Save hearing 2 houses and all that.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/03/2020 21:46

I thought there was no private test, so how did Idris get tested without symptoms?

Marpan · 16/03/2020 21:51

Privately? Where can you get a private coronavirus test??

FlyMayBe · 16/03/2020 22:01

Ooohhhh yes he definitely has it!

daisychain01 · 16/03/2020 22:09

A disproportionate number of celebs and public figures seem to have it.

Maybe this fact will convince people of the importance of social distancing.

All these celebs are regularly in close proximity with the general population, and that's why so many of them are catching it.

Keep distance and you'll do yourself and everyone else a favour.
