Should kids clubs and sports clubs continue
YoursTunbridgeWells · 16/03/2020 18:15
In light of this afternoon's annoucement it seems lots of places are planning not to close. Kids swimming lessons still on, rugby club still on.
Surely these are non-essential social contact?
YoursTunbridgeWells · 16/03/2020 18:18
Just phoned our centre - lessons are still on as the centre doesn't have to shut

Our after school football club has closed til after Easter, I’m pleased as it’s one less activity we ‘should’ do
livingthegoodlife · 16/03/2020 18:21
Should stay Open. The children are mixing at school anyway. Until the schools shut there is little point in stopping kids clubs.

How are the self employed sports coaches meant to pay the mortgage if they shut? If my husband doesn’t work we have no income
happypotamus · 16/03/2020 18:22
DD's brownies cancelled with 30 minutes notice because the leaders feel it is non-essential social contact.
YoursTunbridgeWells · 16/03/2020 18:24
Agreed about how do people pay wages but you cannot get away from the fact this is non-essential social contact. If this was challenged legally, I cannot see that it would be deemed otherwise.
Also many sports clubs involve people from different areas, different schools and different ages mixing.
starrynight19 · 16/03/2020 18:25
They should all close as it is non essential contact. But I doubt they will until forced.
MissisBee · 16/03/2020 18:26
We closed our Guides this week (before this evening's announcement). Just been told my pilates class is cancelled, they're looking at ways to be able to do it by livestream instead.
MaidenMotherCrone · 16/03/2020 18:27
No non essential social contact...... clubs are not essential!

That is not logical. 1) Schools are necessary to keep people going to work, sports clubs are not. 2) Clubs will involve a different mix of children, usually from several schools, thus spreading the virus between different schools and groups. Whereas schools are the same group of children all the time.
