School's not closing, despite confirmed cases.

I know this because I work there.

4 parents have coronavirus. But letter has gone out stating 'no confirmed cases'.

3 of the students have it (children of parents with it). They have it (according to 111) but will not be tested.

Therefore saying 'no confirmed cases' of students, is technically true.

I work in reception. All ill students are sent to reception. I've asked for another place for them to go, there is nowhere.

So it's not a case of if but when, I guess.

What would you do? I'm desperate for advice on this.

Ask for a bio hazard suit to wear in reception?

coronavirusissueatschool · 16/03/2020 18:33

Tempting...

Most wont be confirmed cases as they are not testing unless your ill for over 7 days or can't cope at home.

Most folks are self isolating due to symptoms alone not a confirmed diagnosis

What is the head's rationale for not closing? Given the recent updates I'm astonished that this is ok!

coronavirusissueatschool · 16/03/2020 18:44

What is the head's rationale for not closing? He couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

These are confirmed cases. The parents, there are 4 of them, they are all testing positive. Children at the school are self isolating, have developed symptoms, but not being tested. They are as good as confirmed.

Schools guidance is to STAY OPEN EVEN IF THE HAVE CONFIRMED COVID CASE ONSITE!!

TK1930 · 16/03/2020 19:13

Crazy!

I think the official advice is that suspected cases should be kept in an enclosed room if possible. So not reception. There’s a guidance for schools thing.

Quite a few schools have closed for deep cleaning after a confirmed case. Of course now they’re only testing people in hospital.

That's what I thought. I'll look that up, thank you.
