Should I cancel mother's day plans
Booyoo · 16/03/2020 17:58
I had planned to take my mum out for an afternoon tea for mother's day. She is 51 so not elderly or vulnerable. I feel bad cancelling as I had booked into a local tea room and they will probably lose a lot of business but in light of today's announcement would you cancel?
SilverPepperOfTheStars · 16/03/2020 18:48
We are booked to go out for lunch on Mother's Day at a local independent restaurant. As it stands, I'm not going to cancel.
Fortyquinn · 16/03/2020 18:50
Can't believe anyone is asking this question! Of course you should cancel!
SamVimesFavouriteDragon · 16/03/2020 19:03
We are cancelling plans for sure. I wish we didn't have to, but I'm not taking any risks
drippingwet · 16/03/2020 19:04
Of course you cancel! Do you think the government advice doesn’t apply to you?
Theholidayarmadillo4 · 16/03/2020 19:05
Omg we have just been told not to go to pubs and restaurants
TwelveIslands · 16/03/2020 19:07
Yes, government advice said stop going to pubs, clubs and restaurants. That includes tearooms and cafes.
Only essential social contact. Afternoon teas are lovely, yet not essential.
MordredsOrrery · 16/03/2020 19:07
Yes, cancel. I'm gutted at not seeing mum, but damned if I'm putting her at risk.
Genevieva · 16/03/2020 19:08
The government advice is to limit all social contact. That means no pubs / bars / restaurants or, I would imagine tea rooms. It will be tough for your local tea room. I fear some small businesses may go under. But we need to follow the advice if we want to avoid being under armed guard like Italy.
TwelveIslands · 16/03/2020 19:08
We are booked to go out for lunch on Mother's Day at a local independent restaurant. As it stands, I'm not going to cancel.
That's incredibly selfish and irresponsible.
blue25 · 16/03/2020 19:08
Yes you need to cancel. It’s not essential is it?
People don’t seem to be getting this at all!
SinglePringle · 16/03/2020 19:08
You absolutely have to cancel. You could currently have CV but be asymptomatic (sp). Going out to public places is the exact way the disease spreads.
ItsReallyOnlyMe · 16/03/2020 19:10
Perhaps you could buy a gift voucher so the tea shop has money coming in now (when they need it) - so just postpones the event.
SegregateMumBev · 16/03/2020 19:11
Yes, I've just ordered a gin hamper to be delivered.
(If my kids are reading this, that's a great idea!!!!)
Autumndaysarehereagain · 16/03/2020 19:11
Yes you need to cancel. Avoid all non essential travel and contact with others.
Igotthemheavyboobs · 16/03/2020 19:12
We're going to cancel. Going to cook a meal at home instead.
EasterEggz · 16/03/2020 19:12
"avoid unnecessary social interaction" is the gov advice. I'm sorry but we ALL have to adhere to this, to protect the NHS and the vulnerable. We are ALL being inconvenienced but this is about protecting the vulnerable.
PicnicPie · 16/03/2020 19:16
Yes we were due to go to afternoon tea on saturday and have just cancelled. My mum is 60, but even if she was younger I would still cancel following the latest guidance.
