Is your child's school still running assemblies?

I can't believe both my sons' primary and secondary schools are still packing the whole school into the hall for assembly. Whilst I might personally think schools should close, I do understand there are valid argument for keeping them open. but surely cramming 800 kids into a confined space is stupid and easily avoidable?

No - primary school. Small (half school or less) assemblies, and no plays or outside adults

Tomliboosrule · 16/03/2020 17:49

Class assembly’s only now

LoveSummerLife · 16/03/2020 17:57

No, both primary and secondary have stopped whole school assemblies and cancelled parents evening.

No assemblies in my secondary school.

My school (secondary) had an assembly this morning but no more until further notice. So year 11 had their assembly to "reassure and educate" them about coronavirus, but the rest of the school will have to make do with form tutors reading a PowerPoint. At least they get to ask questions with their form tutors I suppose.

Thanks! I'm a governor at one of the schools but as this is an operational issue I've been sitting on my hands. With this info I feel confident to approach them with my parent hat on tomorrow.

No, our academy trust sent a letter home on Friday advising all assemblies for all year groups will be ‘deferred’. My year R and year 2 dcs were disappointed but parents all supportive.

BlueGheko · 16/03/2020 19:24

Cancelled as of today, as is parents evening next week. Primary school with 500 kids.

My son's assembly went ahead last Friday, not sure what's happening from now on though.

No, they cancelled assembly from last week and lunches are being eaten in the classroom as well. They are staggering the use of the playground as well so that not all kids are on break/lunch playtime at the same time. Seems very sensible. Also opening the gates and doors earlier so that people are not congregating there unnecessarily.
