Having just heard that offspring's uni is suspending lectures and knowing what a student lifestyle is like, I would be more than happy if the uni's would impose a 14 day self isolation in halls before allowing students home. Not that I don't want offspring home but with a 70 year old husband and 90 year old mother at home both currently fit but vulnerable I'm resenting the potential intrusion of uni germs and a social lifestyle into our peaceful set up. AIBO?

YANBU.

I have no idea how they could do that.

Our uni is still 'business as usual" because they're following gov advice. However, it got real today. I think and hope it's only a matter of days away now.

It's all on individual lecturers trying to advise students coming in with coughs. I have advised a few to self isolate today hut they clearly didn't know they should be. Just thought not coming into class was enough.

We're like a microcosm of the UK 'lead' by the gov. Unless you tell people straight things are shut and not happening, they will carry on as usual. You can't just advise.

We need stronger leadership all round. As parents, I would tell offspring what you've said. You're probably better placed to do so than us. But can't honestly see how staff could impose what you say even though I understand and agree with it.

Isolation? Are they still having lectures??

Sorry!! Just missed the actually main line.

I blame dyslexia and wine, sorry.

I wish my dds uni would shut so I could pursuade her to come home. She is pottering along in her little student bubble insisiting it is all business as usual. (admittedly we don't have anyone vulnerable in our household - that would be different.)

I agree with Mumteedum. I don't think that unis have the power to make students self isolate. They're adults and it's up to them to decide (unless the government intervenes). Of course you could tell them they can't come back home for another two weeks.
