Paying full nursery fees while closed

We have been informed we will have to pay full nursery fees if the nursery has to close.

AIBU to fight this?

I don’t want to loose my DS’s place at the nursery as he is happy there and it took time for him to settle in but can’t afford to pay. I don’t want them to go bust so I’m willing to pay some but surely they would be making a huge profit if we all pay full fees while they close?

Okay. Good for you. I imagine you're worried about something that I would think wasn't particularly concerning but I wouldn't be so unkind as to belittle you for it.

@peachgreen I am sure a few weeks or months wont impact your toddlers development!! As long as you wont keep them glued to TV lol Loads of children dont even go to nurseries at all so this is a weird thing to worry about imo. Unless you have a clinical anxiety......

@undecided It's not going to be a few weeks, though. I'm not talking about educational development but social development. Once we lock down we'll be in isolation for 12 weeks as DH is in a risk group. So DD won't see ANYONE in person except me and DH for at least three months. That's not the same as a child not going to nursery under normal circumstances.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/03/2020 15:53

is anyone else concerned about the impact this could have on our toddler's development? I actually get what you mean. When nurseries shut, my LO will be at home with me whilst I work, that’s difficult. I had a conference call the other day with her at home and it was peppa pig and juice to occupy her. No soft play, no play dates, no cafes....belittle people’s concerns if you like but it’s going to be difficult

So I am imaging they would be paying their staff the minimum hours they are contracted for.
You imagine wrongly. Nursery workers have said they only get SSP, so nowhere near comparable to their salary.

Catlover10 · 18/03/2020 16:03

Is it confirmed that nurseries will be shutting? Or just a rumour right now? What do people think?

Mysterian · 18/03/2020 17:08

The other day a staff member in my nursery was holding a baby when they coughed directly into the staff member's face. They were still saying "Ewww!" when the baby sneezed into their face. Things spread fast around nurseries at the best of times. We're all assuming we'll shut with schools around Easter.

What our nursery annouced is that they are staying open for key workers & also they get paid from Govt for funded hours regardless so that should keep them going. The kids who cannot go will get reduced or no fees to pay at all. They will confirm by Friday :)

peachgreen · 19/03/2020 11:45

Gosh that's great @Undecided91. Fingers crossed it's the same for ours.

Undecided91 · 21/03/2020 17:30

Right, oyr nursery stays open for Key workers inly and the others who cant attend dont get charged a penny. Very please with it
