After 7 days....

So I've been ill with what I suspect to be Covid-19 and it's now Day 8. My symptoms have never been too much to handle but my temp is still going up and down.

I don't understand what I am meant to do at this point. NHS 111 advice is if you're still ill after 7 days then use their online service. Their online service though then says the same thing - self isolate for 7 days and then use the service if still ill after that!

I assume I don't need to self-isolate for ANOTHER 7 days and when my temp comes down I'm free to leave this house....

what are others opinions?

I think the 7 days is because that is when you are most likely to be contagious so presumably you are now ok to go out but if you still feel unwell i probably wouldn't, mainly because if I'm ill if rather be home/in bed.

But I'm not a doctor so I don't actually know

sewingsinger · 16/03/2020 12:44

Dr John Campbell (videos on YouTube, a steady voice) said in one of his videos that he felt 7 days wasn't sufficient, he said the minimum should be 10. Make sure you get properly better.

Surely if you are still I'll after 7 days and coughing you can still pass it on? If only there was a test that people could take to determine whether they had it or not ... oh wait

FATEdestiny · 16/03/2020 12:50

I think advice is "7 days or until symptoms are clear".

I'm in a similar position, also Day 8 since I became ill coughing. I feel much better now and cough has definitely changed in last 2 days - now a wet, productive cough (clearing dead cells from the lungs?).

I'm not sure when to un-isolate. I think I'm better now but worried what others will think with me still coughing. This wet cough could go on for the rest of this week.

"If your symptoms worsen during home isolation or are no better after 7 days contact NHS 111 online. If you have no internet access, you should call NHS 111"

SugarSugarShimmy · 16/03/2020 13:13

@vinosaurus but the tick boxes just lead me back to the same place!

@fatedestiny the guidance says the cough may go on much longer but you're no loner contagious

Ah you're kidding me SugarSugarShimmy, it's all so vague and ambiguous isn't it!

SugarSugarShimmy · 16/03/2020 13:17

@sewingsinger you do know he's not a doctor in the true sense of the word don't you? I feel everyone is quoting him as an authority but he's just a layperson

He isn’t a layperson, he is a nurse and healthcare professional.

SugarSugarShimmy · 16/03/2020 14:06

Yes, a nurse, but not the owner of answers to all things CoronaVirus. He only hears and reads what everyone else has access to.
