Shopping woe

My online shopping due this morning is desimated no eggs no potatoes, no frozen veg, no soup, no loo roll, no tissues, no wipes, no chicken, no milk. It is obviously to do with location.

My DP is away working I can't go out due to my DS cough. My inlaws can't help as they both are extremely high risk one is undergoing chemo one newly diagnosed. Other family in London.

The neighbours aren't going help to Mr & Mrs Arsehole live next door. The other neighbours in my very small hamlet are rich and I'm like a pauper compared to them they would gesture me away with a peg on their nose

What a nightmare.

Apparently Ocado, Tesco etc are cancelling whole shopping orders.

What company was urs? Ive a ocado booked for later hope it all comes!

Apolloanddaphne · 16/03/2020 09:03

Maybe your rich neighbours would be more helpful than you think in the current circumstances?

Designerenvy · 16/03/2020 09:03

Do you have a friend you could ask, they could just drop groceries at the door ?

Tulipstulips · 16/03/2020 09:03

I’m really sorry to hear that, how stressful. Is there a local Facebook group you can post On? Mine has several posts from people offering to help people who are isolated.

Where did you hear about supermarkets cancelling whole orders? I did hear that some were closing their online delivery service to new customers but I’m not sure how true that is.

Gaagaa · 16/03/2020 09:04

My local town has just set up a Facebook group to co-ordinate requests for help which seems to be working well, might be worth a try- hope you get some support soon

FortunesFave · 16/03/2020 09:04

Could you go on your local facebook page and see if someone will drop you some milk at the doorstep? I'm in Oz and people are doing that. They're paying via paypal and Venmo so no money's changing hands.

Gaagaa · 16/03/2020 09:05

Lots of cross posting there!

Thesearmsofmine · 16/03/2020 09:05

Try a local Facebook group, there are always people willing to help others.

I was amazed that my online shop for today has been fine, a few subs but nothing outrageous.

Apolloanddaphne · 16/03/2020 09:07

If I am honest (and I expect to be shot down in flames for this) if I had a choice between self isolating because my child had a cough or going hungry I would without doubt pop out quickly and get some shopping. If you have a car you could be in and out the shop veery quickly.

Apolloanddaphne · 16/03/2020 09:08

To qualify my last post. I would do this if there was absolutely no other option at all open to me. Trying FB supports might be a good starting point.

RedRed9 · 16/03/2020 09:13

Even if you could go out Apollo it’s not going to change the fact that none of the missing food items are even in the shops! The OP isn’t going to be able to get loo roll, eggs, chicken etc because there isn’t any to be had.

(What are shoppers doing with all the eggs anyway? It’s not like they keep indefinitely and you can’t freeze them... can you?)

Apolloanddaphne · 16/03/2020 09:16

But at least if you are in the shop you can see exactly what they do have and buy accordingly.

Oysterbabe · 16/03/2020 09:16

When is your DP back?

SlayB · 16/03/2020 09:23

They were discussing it on GMB and saying the internet deliveries are struggling. Talking about someone's Ocado order which was booked a week ago cancelled no chance to re book. Surprising as it comes from a warehouse rather than a shop.

Mine is Sainsbury's I'm quite shocked at staples butter, milk, eggs not being available.

Most of my friends are in London I know one lady my sons tutor who could have helped is away. The posh neighbours are very intimidating as a shy person.

I will post on my facebook chat page but, I feel a bit of a cow as I live 15/20 minutes outside of our closet town.

Thanks for the replies my heart has been racing and I cried over my shopping.

Can you sign up with a local milkman, ours can deliver bread, eggs, Butter, yoghurt, cheese and fruit and veg boxes as well as milk. It’s a bit pricy but we can order online before 9pm for next day delivery.

SlayB · 16/03/2020 09:25

DP is home hopefully Friday. Depends on whether the job is finished he is a contractor doing maintenance.

My son works for a supermarket picking shopping for online orders. I went in when he was working yesterday picking the orders. The shelves were bare, he said it's a nightmare because there's nothing to replace the ordered items with. Thus the customers are getting replacements or nothing at all with items such as toilet roll, eggs, flour, UHT milk, and teabags.

SlayB · 16/03/2020 10:22

I think dairy is the next thing @Hatethewordhun I'm not sure why the Supermarkets aren't rationing everything. It seems the only way to go.
