Help with UK to Aus with Emirates - beginning of April
I am meant to be going to Aus from the UK on 4th April. Because of the isolation rule, we would spend literally the entire duration of our holiday in self-isolation so there is just no point us going. I literally booked these flights 2 days ago as Cathay cancelled my original flights earlier on in the week.. wishing I hadn’t bothered! I doubt the quarantine rules will be lifted before then...
Anyone know if Emirates would be flexible with no cancellation charges given the situation? Waiting to hear back from them currently. Any help much appreciated.

I think if you look on their fb page they are allowing people to change. We always fly with Emirates (DH works in the ME) and have found them really helpful.

ItsAlwaysSunnyInPhiladelphia · 16/03/2020 07:46

The problem is we can’t rebook. These are literally the only 2 weeks we can go as DH works in a school and I can’t take 2 weeks of AL in summer hols because my colleagues are already off then. So I really need a refund. I am worrying as already over 4K in debt as Cathay will take 4-6 weeks to refund our original flights and obviously haven’t heard with regard to these flights.

Emirates are apparently offering a credit that can be used to rebook if used before 12 months from original issue date.
But you might be best to wait a bit and see if they cancel flights altogether, in which case they’re more likely to just refund you

I changed my flights with Emirates this morning for tonight as I was due to fly to dubai.

They are offering replacements free of charge currently so I’ve rebooked for November.

If you have booked more recently they have slightly different terms and conditions for those flights so it may allow you to cancel the information on there website is fairly up to date and it will depend on what ticket type you booked eg I booked saver so normally would have had to pay to change but some of the more expensive tickets you could change/cancel for free and do this online.

So the only other week we would be able to go is Christmas holidays. This is the response I have received from Emirates. The trouble is looking at the flights for Christmas time, the cheapest is £3500. I have already paid £1700 for our flights, so I’d have to pay an additional £1800 which is just can’t afford. I think at this point, I will have to pray that they cancel the flights to I can be refunded.

Or hope that Australia call off their self isolation rule.

Take the credit note, and plan to go somewhere else with the flights when you know more? Sounds like Oz is off.

ItsAlwaysSunnyInPhiladelphia · 16/03/2020 09:25

Here is my date conditions with regard to cancellation.
Am I reading this right in the fact that I won’t be charged to cancel my flights?

Wait, especially if your booking conditions allow total refund up to the last minute if they cancel. I’m Australian and would not be surprised if we close our borders, then emirates will have to cancel and it will be a refund. I’ve been keeping an eye on this as we were meant to fly with them too at Easter. Self isolation for 2 weeks is not going to be called off any time soon, they’re looking at closing schools (I think next week for 4 weeks in nsw), unis are arranging to go online from next week or shortly thereafter, any events with more than 5O0 are cancelled, cruise ships are shut down for 30 days, etc.

Read the guardian live blog as it updates about Australia regularly.

In fact you can pretty much guarantee it if New Zealand close their borders soon, our PM will follow so flights will be cancelled. So keep an eye on NZ and assume Australia will probably copy shortly thereafter.

They probably just want to deal with customers going in next few days. I wouldn’t be booking anything for a while. Hope you can get it sorted

I too was going to Perth on 5th April.
Have cancelled.
Singapore Airlines will give me a credit towards another flight if I re- book before 31.3.2021. No rebooking fees. Have a look at their website to see if your airline does the same. I have applied already.
Happy with that. Can possibly go at Christmas this year.
Sorry about your holiday.
