Can I keep the DC home?

My DC's dad (we're divorced, I can't stand him) thinks we should keep them off school.

My eldest is in Year 12. No upcoming exams. Youngest is in Year 7. Ditto.

DC's Dad is in his early 60s with emphysema. DC1 hates the thought of transmitting COVID-19 to his father during the incubation period. DC2 just fancies staying home.

I work from home 3 days out of 5 so could easily manage with them here.

A boy in one of DS1's classes has a brother who's been tested and has the virus. The boy (not the diagnosed boy, his brother) is now allowed back in school, one week week later.

I don't want to lie and say the DC have symptoms, obviously. but if I'm honest, will the school force me to send them in?

I also don't want to make extra work for the teachers. But how would the DC get homework, etc, if they're not in?

Please don't pile on me! I can see both sides. I don't know what to do. Your insights/thoughts are greatly welcomed!
