Worried about DS

He's 22 months.

He developed a fever & cough on Friday night. He's still poorly, seemed a little better earlier this afternoon & his temperature went down for a couple of hours but it's gone up again & he's quite lethargic.

We live quite rurally & I don't think there's been any local cases but I can't say for sure. We've obviously kept him at home but I would like him to be seen. He's not himself at all. What can I do??

I've done the NHS 111 online and it just told me to self isolate for 7 days but my worry is that if it is a different illness surely it needs to be diagnosed / treated?

Give 111 a ring, he's still very little.

@NoUseNumber31

DS had a better night & his temperature has gone down today so I think he's recovering from what I assume to just be a 'normal' virus! Will be isolating for the 7 days though. Thanks for your reply. Smile

Well, I spoke too soon!

Following 24 hours of a normal temperature & normal habits (aside from not eating much), DS developed a fever again last night and coughed to the point of vomiting.

This morning his temperature came down and he's had a good day, explored the garden etc but at bedtime I checked & he's got a high temperature again!

I really don't know what to do. Even if it's not Coronavirus, surely if it's a bacterial infection it would need medical attention?

This is the problem isn't it, we just don't know? Ds2 had the sort of thing you describe about 6 months ago. A temperature on and off for over a week. It went up to 40 at 2am one morning. It was scary enough as it was, but if it happened now it would be so much worse.

Can you phone 111 for advice? I think you're supposed to phone them for under 5s rather than the online tool.

@Nottalotta

Yes it really is. I'd have usually taken DS to the doctors but of course - I haven't been able to!

He had another good day, but he's still coughing & developed a high temperature in the evening again. I will call my doctor tomorrow. A relative, who is a nurse, advised against calling 111 as they are (apparently) telling everyone with a cough to self-isolate - which we're already doing.

How is he now OP ?

@Nottalotta

He's just gone to bed - he's had a good day & no temperature at all! Smile

I did speak to a clinician at my local GP and they reassured me that his symptoms are normal for any type of virus, but that if he is still poorly by Monday they will sort something out to have him seen.
