The Queen is 94 Prince Charles is 71 if the country goes into lock down with over 70s self isolating who is in charge of the country? Can the Queen work remotely from one of her homes or is it Prince William who will need to do any royal meet and greet

It's hardly essential work, is it. Especially given that international travel us likely to be severely curtailed very shortly. On balance, I should think they would (should) cancel any meet & greet type of things, in the face of the possible infection & death of the heir/s to the throne?

LovingLola · 15/03/2020 19:46

who is in charge of the country?

That would be Boris. Or Dominic Cummings.

Lynda07 · 15/03/2020 19:46

I think they won't be meeting and greeting for a while but they may do some things at home which can be broadcast and will almost certainly make a few morale boosting speeches. They are as vulnerable as anyone else as are all their staff.

TheMemoryLingers · 15/03/2020 19:53

Even if the Queen/Prince Charles were younger it would be madness for them to go on meet and greets because of the crowds that would gather.

Fatnorthernwoman · 15/03/2020 19:56

I thought that the new laws have to be run past the Queen and the prime minister meets her to discuss what's going on.
If she's isolating then I wonder if stuff can be e mailed and she can see the PM by Skype
Bring royalty up to date without bits of paper and coloured boxes

I'm sure she can dial in from Sandringham.

ceramichedgehog · 15/03/2020 20:05

in charge of the country 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Justajot · 15/03/2020 20:20

The biggest risk that the Queen poses at the moment is that she dies (of anything) and people gather for her funeral.

ThanosSavedMe · 15/03/2020 20:24

You do realise that the monarchy are not in charge of the country and haven’t been for quite a while now.

Unfortunately it was Boris before and it’s Boris now.

TwelveIslands · 15/03/2020 20:24

Lol in charge of the country????

Sure the PM meets with her and all laws have to receive royal assent, but it's ceremonial, a formality, she has no real power to say no.

Fatnorthernwoman · 15/03/2020 20:24

I suppose it also applies to the Duke of Edinburgh at 98 and retired then it's certainly possible that he may die of something while lock down is on.
I have only seen on the TV the Queen doing boxes of papers no idea what they are though..

She keeps herself in the loop, that's all.

TheQueef · 15/03/2020 20:26

Don't panic they still have Wi-Fi.

ApplesinmyPocket · 15/03/2020 20:46

The Queen is not in charge of the country. She never was. She is a kind of, hmmm, a decorative thing. You don't need to worry.

(are you very young? surely everyone knows this?}

damnthatanxiety · 15/03/2020 20:52

who would be in charge of the country? Er, that would be the government. Because we live in a parliamentary democracy. Or did you miss that bit at school?

RB68 · 15/03/2020 20:56

How old is Boris?

ssd · 15/03/2020 20:58

Don't worry op, am sure the queen has WiFi, she'll keep in touch.

Russellbrandshair · 15/03/2020 21:00

Yes it’s a bit worrying to think who will do all the waving if she can’t isnt it? 😆
She doesn’t do much anyway so I wouldn’t worry

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/03/2020 21:00

Coronavirus won't touch the DofE. The man is practically biopic. He will outlive William.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/03/2020 21:01

bionic

SallyLovesCheese · 15/03/2020 21:11

The Queen in charge?!

She has basically zero political power. Her boxes of paperwork will be a summary of what's happened in parliament, copies of any acts or amendments passed, letters from people that her secretary thinks she needs to see, lists of honours to put her signature on etc. My dad has a certificate signed by her when he became an RAF officer, for example.

Fatnorthernwoman · 15/03/2020 21:12

I really don't know that much about what the Queen actually does apart from having posh dinners with other supposedly important people and opening things like parliament.
I realise is not like in the past at when the Kings could do what they wanted.
I suppose all the entertaining visitors gives the politicians more time to get on with stuff

Luc1nda · 15/03/2020 21:29

Do you mind me asking how old you are?
