The Queen is 94 Prince Charles is 71 if the country goes into lock down with over 70s self isolating who is in charge of the country? Can the Queen work remotely from one of her homes or is it Prince William who will need to do any royal meet and greet

To be the Queen Mother you have to be the Dowager Queen. They are not separate titles.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 16/03/2020 10:40

Queen Mother is not a title. It is a style.

And Catherine would prospectively be the King Mother.

ajandjjmum · 16/03/2020 10:43

Please - Your Majesty - if you're reading, could you set the wheels in motion for a quick 2020 Regency Act, so that if the worst came to the worst (and I hope it doesn't!), we get Kate as Regent and not Andrew.

ajandjjmum · 16/03/2020 10:44

I understood that Queen Mother was used, so that there wouldn't be two Queen Elizabeths. Queen Mary was still used by the King's mother, until she died.

No she wouldn't. She would be Queen Mother.

It means means Dowager Queen who is mother of the current monarch

Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra were both mothers of Kings yet would, if they had chosen, been known as Queen Mother

It was used because there was two Queen Elizabeths. Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, or Dowager Queen Elizabeth.

It made it easy to know which Queen Elizabeth was opening the bridge/going to the factory etc.

i think whatever residant she isnt isolating in should be turned ino hospital centres.
imagine self isolating in one of her estates though.its like her own village

Pedallleur · 16/03/2020 11:12

As if the ordinary people are going anywhere near the Royal Family! Off to Balmoral or Sandringham and Andrew is tucked away safe. But will Beatrice's wedding go ahead?

moondance19 · 16/03/2020 11:12

And not everyone loves the queen at all. Far from it.

I'm a republican. I dislike the institution. However, I have a grudging admiration for Elizabeth. She does the job well. And for her EU hat, I almost love her.

Fine, but like I said, not everyone does. I find nothing to admire in her. Everything she does is self serving, the benefits of what she gets in return (not just for her but her huge extended family) far outweigh what she does. The country would manage fine without them, she cares for the preservation of the monarchy at all costs, and her huge unearned wealth, and imo doesn’t care a diddly squat for the the poor and under privileged.

moondance19 · 16/03/2020 11:15

I totally agree about turning some of those huge palaces into hospital centres. It’s deplorable that they should just be at the disposal of one elitist family.

Weregoingonanadventure · 16/03/2020 12:29

@moondance19
In the context of my post, I was quite clearly talking about foreign dignitaries and those they visit on royal tours.

Vanhi · 16/03/2020 13:10

@moondance19 I take your point. I dislike the idea of royalty because they enshrine a very unequal, anti-meritocratic society. But within that, I don't object to the queen personally. I do understand why other people dislike her. I don't get the love for royalty as an institution. It's 2020, we don't need them.
