Hi

So as of tomorrow any gatherings indoors of over 100 and outdoors over 500 is to stop. How will this work when it comes to lunchtime in dinner halls? Any Scottish teachers etc have any idea?

Thanks

The college I go to has closed today. I have also kept my dc off since Friday. I think they will close soon.

Trichford · 17/03/2020 19:04

Our school updated us through email tonight. Basically saying school still open, what measures are in place and for those that have told them they are self isolating they have work packs and online logins. If we want the work packs we can arrange for them to be collected or they will post them to us. Packs also contain a timetable to help you plan kids learning.
They said they have this for every child should closures occur.
I am going to arrange for these so the kids don't miss out too much and fall behind.

My kids school have just emailed tonight asking if any parents are emergency workers.

LoadsaBlusher · 17/03/2020 20:22

Are you in Scotland I0NA if so south / west etc

Stressedout10 · 17/03/2020 21:05

My ds school yesterday said parents night would be on today, then cancelled it this morning also only maybe 1/3 of the kids were in

Bellebelle · 17/03/2020 21:24

DD1’s school (secondary in central Edinburgh) emailed tonight to confirm that they will be open tomorrow but will be combining some classes due to staff shortages. Sounds like we’re going to get daily updates until they can’t practically keep the school running. DD1 is third year so we don’t have the worry of exams luckily, she says that some of the teachers were telling them today that they wouldn’t be back in as they live with high risk people or are high risk themselves. I suspect the head teacher has given teachers the choice to do what they need to. Email also says that if parents need to or choose to keep children home that is fine but at this stage while the school is still open they don’t have capacity to provide work for pupils to do at home on an individual basis. They have however sent out a full guide on how pupils will be able to access online learning if needed and DD1 has been sent home with a lot of large assignments and workbooks. Teachers have been arranging laptops for kids who don’t have one at home. They’re obviously prepping them for the inevitable.

DD2 away on P7 residential and having the time of her life from the look of the photos we’ve been sent. Counting every day that they don’t get called home early as a blessing.

Ffsnosexallowed · 17/03/2020 21:27

Dd (p6) says that about 10 of her class of 26 were off today, and they were in a combined class. I think they'll close next week.

midnightstar66 · 17/03/2020 21:38

Edinburgh school staff here, we had 12 out of 60 in nursery and 30 out of 60 in p1. My area is one of the most deprived. DD (nice MC school) who is in P2 told me 2 were off in her class of 30 today and dd p6 said 17 out of 90 p6's off. Worrying the kids that need the consistency most are the ones not coming in! Obviously it reflects those that need to work. No idea what the answer is but I don't feel especially safe going in each day. I'm a single parent and my older parents with health issues who cover childcare also look after my even older GP's. It's a real catch 22

midnightstar66 · 17/03/2020 21:41

When I say 12 out of 60 and 30 of 60 I mean that's how many were in school not how many were off. Really low attendance!

ManyShades · 17/03/2020 23:16

It is a really low attendance but is it wrong? I am lucky that I have to work from home as of this week. I am a lone parent on a low income because I am studying and working only part time. I am worried about my son who has asthma and my mum who had cancer. So I took the decision to keep my son off.

It was an easy decision because I am working and studying from home. Am I wrong because we could be classed as deprived and are maybe not viewed as MC.

Do people think I am a rubbish parent because of class and that I kept my son off school because I am putting my family before anything else.

ManyShades · 17/03/2020 23:19

My son has been at home doing school work. I think he will benefit from working at home because he does not get the support he needs in the classroom with his classwork.

I0NA · 17/03/2020 23:21

@LoadsaBlusher

West of Scotland

ParkheadParadise · 17/03/2020 23:26

@I0NA
Same here, from dd's nursery.
Also West of Scotland.

ManyShades · 17/03/2020 23:26

East Ren asking parents if they work for Emergency Service, have internet access and can work from home.

womaninatightspot · 17/03/2020 23:34

My schools update was essentially send your kids to school and make sure they have their own water bottle. Which is fair enough.

If you choose to keep your child off school as a precautionary measure, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and we are not in a position to provide work for the absent children.

Please continue to follow normal procedures regarding absence from school ie contact school to inform us of your child’s absence and the reason for it.

It may be advisable to send children to school with their own water bottle in preference to using the shared water fountain as another good hygiene measure.

There are currently no plans to close schools so I encourage you to continue to send children to school unless advised otherwise by NHS 24.

Please be reassured there are NO suspected or confirmed cases of COVID 19 amongst the staff or pupils at this time.

SamSeabornforPresident · 17/03/2020 23:36

Are they just going to send home the kids NOT sitting vital exams

I suspect this is what may happen. And, according to texts received by parents, schools will remain open to the children of essential workers. That sounds manageable, logistically. Hmm

midnightstar66 · 18/03/2020 06:08

Do people think I am a rubbish parent because of class and that I kept my son off school because I am putting my family before anything else.*

No, nobody thinks that, it's simply the case that those with the option are mostly keeping kids home but many are in a position where they need to go to work/send their kids to school. I am also a lone on very low income fwiw. I wasn't making any judgment, simply comparing the difference.

edgewater · 18/03/2020 07:04

I don’t know what we will do if schools close until August.

We have no other family. It’s just the three of us. I’d have to stop working.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/03/2020 09:00

We'll either be opening our clubs all day if allowed or doing babysitting edgewater so there might be options around.

If you still have a job then don’t give it up. Hire a sensible university student to watch your kids. Yes it will cost but anything’s better than losing your job.

Schools closed from Friday

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/03/2020 15:03

This is a bloody nightmare.

Radarred · 18/03/2020 15:08

It doesn't feel real.

edgewater · 18/03/2020 16:03

I honestly don’t know how we will survive.
