Hi

So as of tomorrow any gatherings indoors of over 100 and outdoors over 500 is to stop. How will this work when it comes to lunchtime in dinner halls? Any Scottish teachers etc have any idea?

Thanks

I suspect it will be next week and in the Friday so a week before the Easter holidays.

ManyShades · 15/03/2020 18:30

I am becoming anxious about to too. I can't imagine what it will be like if there is no school for 16 weeks.

backaftera2yearbreak · 15/03/2020 18:34

I was thinking about that too. Especially if part of that we need to remain indoors. People manage under worse circumstances. I think I would feel better if I knew what was being planned.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/03/2020 18:35

it's making me very anxious backafter - our business is potentially really impacted but we just don't know what's going to happen which makes it really stressful.

backaftera2yearbreak · 15/03/2020 18:41

Goodness that really must be a worry for you. I’m a civil servant so I may be ok to work from home and things if advice changes. My partner will have to work though as I imagine what he dies will be considered business critical.

backaftera2yearbreak · 15/03/2020 18:41

*does not dies.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/03/2020 19:05

It's not much fun. I have a FT job as well and can WFH but it won't keep the staff in the business paid. We have a few back up ideas but the unknowns about how tight any restrictions on movement might be make it difficult

Namelesswonder · 15/03/2020 19:07

The aim of limiting EVENTS to 500 people is that events over 500 need policing and to have ambulances on stand by for any medical emergencies. To limit pressure on police and ambulances they are not going to allow the gatherings.

This has got nothing to do with schools, it doesn’t apply to schools!!!!

backaftera2yearbreak · 15/03/2020 19:27

That’s how I understood it too @Namelesswonder

LoadsaBlusher · 15/03/2020 19:32

Our local council just sent out texts to say all schools opening as normal this week
( Scottish council )

backaftera2yearbreak · 15/03/2020 19:34

My sons actually going to PGL in the morning. We’re all holding our breath that they get to go!

Verily1 · 15/03/2020 20:35

School attendances rates this week will be awful!

FailingMeansYouArePlaying · 16/03/2020 09:11

8 people in a class line at my friends childrens school in Edinburgh. Less than 50% in that class.

backaftera2yearbreak · 16/03/2020 10:36

Oh my goodness that’s awful. My son did get away to camp.

goodthanks · 16/03/2020 11:55

Half of my DD's class were off today, playground was looking very sparse. I imagine it'll get worse as the week goes on.

TheSandman · 16/03/2020 14:24

So if they shut the schools how do do my kids who are doing Nat 4/5s and Advanced Highers sit their exams? My DD1 wants to go to college. She needs to pass. Are they just going to send home the kids NOT sitting vital exams or just open up for them on exam days?

What. Is. Going. ON?

ManyShades · 16/03/2020 14:38

If they don't shut schools are parents allowed to keep their children at home? I am thinking I would like to keep my ds at home because he has asthma and also I don't want to put my elderly relatives at risk. I need to see my elderly relatives as they live alone and only have me for support.

Double3xposure · 16/03/2020 19:28

I think That even if they close the schools, they will open them for the SQA exams.

Just my opinion.

TheSandman · 17/03/2020 00:39

My kids reported school was totally normal today. No mass absenteeism. No fuss. Just another day.

Gingerkittykat · 17/03/2020 00:47

DDs FE college is closing at the end of the week, central Scotland with 3 campuses. Apparently it was already like a ghost town today.

I don't see how they can close a college but not the schools.

Andahelterskelterroundmylittle · 17/03/2020 00:49

About 80% attendance in schools across our Authority today . Central belt .
Conflictedcnyself on right course if action as I'm a teacher in 3 schools per week - a lot of exposure worries , but have DD doing Highers and needs school and exams. Think Scotland will limp along til Easter holidays as far as I've heard.

nicerainyweather · 17/03/2020 01:01

I've taken my DC out. The school has just had a child come down with coronovirus. She's doing Nat5s.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/03/2020 08:22

I don't see how they can close a college but not the schools.

The college (if it's the one I'm thinking of) have made their own decision. And those who attend the college not being there has little/no knock on impact on other people's ability to work. They don't need to be cared for by someone who would otherwise be working, possibly in a critical role int he way younger children do.

ManyShades · 17/03/2020 08:44

The college I attend is remaining open. They have no plans to close at the moment.

Trichford · 17/03/2020 15:51

Seems on another thread that there is a fair few English schools being closed as of tomorrow. Although it seems mainly to do with staff shortage. I wonder if we will follow suit, my kids have been off since Friday anyway but my son spoke to one of his friends online last night and apparently a lot of kids were off yesterday. Can only imagine even more would of been off today after prime ministers broadcast last night!
