would you:

meet a group of friends in a cafe
go to the hairdresser
go to dentist for check up
go to clubs and classes

In other words are you cancelling routine social stuff?

I am concerned as have two extended family members who may need me to support them.

I'm doing all of the above! The restaurants were nice and quiet tonight.

pigoons · 14/03/2020 23:22

I am doing everything as normal apart from trying to avoid public transport and hoping to work from home

mymymymycorona · 14/03/2020 23:23

I am doing nothing... we have been home since Tuesday night... no work, no school, nothing. And I intend on staying that way for the next few weeks AT LEAST but I will visit woodlands and beaches for fresh air.

Bombaybunty · 14/03/2020 23:23

Haven't changed anything yet.

iVampire · 14/03/2020 23:27

I’m scaling back on all of these

I’ve been meeting friends out on walks, not going to hairdresser, had an emergency dental appointment, but will delay routine check up, not going to indoors clubs anc classes (still running outdoors including in groups)

But with the possibility that the vulnerable (over 70s and those with serious underlying conditions) may be directed to step up their distancing into fuller isolation, I shall need to reconsider walks and runs, and work out how on earth to arrange the household to minimise contact with the (teenage) DC

Mmmmdanone · 14/03/2020 23:35

I'm carrying on almost as normal. I have to work and use bus to get there. Seems pointless not to go to other places too, within reason- no large get togethers. I'm careful about hand washing. I went to the dentist this week- very strict hygiene there obviously as always. I intend to go for a weekend away next weekend which has been planned for ages. Just me and a friend going to a hotel and restaurant/ drinks.

Wauden · 14/03/2020 23:47

I am thinking about whether or not I should go to choir next week. There are about 200 people in it...
I can't make up my mind, so what would you do?
I suffer from asthma.

tobee · 14/03/2020 23:50

Pretty much in lockdown here. Don't have the appetite to do much. Have a scheduled dental appointment next week (2nd part of treatment) they'll let me know if it's going ahead or not.

elQuintoConyo · 14/03/2020 23:57

I'm in Barcelona, we're on lockdown.
Out for food, for medicine, for the dog, otherwise at home.
Streets and squares are freakishly quiet, it's really unnerving.

artio0 · 14/03/2020 23:58

I have been going to gym classes / pubs / toddler play groups up until now (am not living with anyone high risk). But am starting to wonder if I should stop.

Mintjulia · 15/03/2020 00:02

I haven’t changed my routine except to wash hands more often, and use lots of hand cream.

I wouldn’t fly anywhere at the moment because I prefer to be at home if I am going to be ill. And I wouldn’t kiss or hug any non-family members. But otherwise life goes on as usual for us.

Wehttam · 15/03/2020 00:17

Those of you carrying on as normal, have a word with yourselves. Dismissing this catastrophe and being ignorant of the scale of what’s to come makes you out to be massive idiots and actually makes me cringe.

How will you feel afterwards when we are counting the dead and you realise your stupidity could have been the reason why x or z didn’t make it?

There’s no brownie points for carrying on as normal right now.

managedmis · 15/03/2020 00:52

meet a group of friends in a cafe _ yes
go to the hairdresser - no
go to dentist for check up - yes, went on Thursday
go to clubs and classes - nope, kept the kids off swim and taekwondo this weekend

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/03/2020 00:53

wehttam unless workplaces shut/give people the option to work from home, some people have no choice. I am exposed to hundreds of people each day, usually about 50 at close contact. Eating a cake in a coffee shop is a tiny risk in comparison.

Don't go!

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 15/03/2020 01:20

Cafés are all shut but I'd meet friends at someone's house - I'd check they were well though
Hairdressers are all shut
Wouldn't go to the dentist, mostly because it involves public transport
Might go to my book club at someone's house
Will probably go to physiotherapy in a gym setting, not quite a class

ladybird69 · 15/03/2020 03:31

Went to get a takeaway tonight and was told that it’s closing down after tomorrow! Then got a message telling me that the local art class will be closed for the foreseeable future. Went to visit mum in home and visitors coming and going, no difference. Seems some are taking it seriously and others being very laid back.

LoveIsLovely · 15/03/2020 03:34

In Korea.

Not doing anything. And shocked at how blasé people in the UK are tbh.

yes, you still need to do certain things perhaps. But surely people can see it's a numbers game and that if you encounter 20 people or 200 people it makes a difference to your chances of getting it or spreading it.

HoldMyLobster · 15/03/2020 03:36

I'm in the US and I'm doing none of the things you list OP.

My children's school is now closed, my older child's university has closed and she comes home tomorrow.

I work from home and I go places by car or I walk.

I try to go to the supermarket late in the evening when it's quieter.

All events have been cancelled here anyway, so it's not like there's a decision to make about things like choir etc.

All the restaurants/cafes are switching to takeaway-only, so you can still get a nice meal but you don't have to come into direct contact with people to get it.

Our book club just switched to online.

I'm sure we'll get bored, and I know there will be times when we have to go out, but we're limiting it as much as possible given that we have the opportunity to do so.

LoveIsLovely · 15/03/2020 03:42

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I don't know how well the situation here in Korea is. Most of the cases are in Daegu because a member of a church (cult really) caught it and spread it to basically everyone in her church, those people then spread it further around the city.

I don't get why you'd take unnecessary risks. It spreads so quickly.

We're all watching the western world aghast here tbh. No one understands why people aren't taking it seriously. Especially the UK where the health service is terrible. We have great health care here, God knows what will happen in the UK.

LynnSchmob · 15/03/2020 03:44

I’m carrying on as normal until told to stop.

pastabreak · 15/03/2020 03:50

Aware we haven't been told by BoJo to stay at home so plenty still carrying on as normal, but Spain not taking it seriously and still socialising and doing non essential trips is the reason they've imposed the lock down.

LynnSchmob · 15/03/2020 03:55

But Spain is ahead of the curve. The advice from the uk government might be different next week and if it is I will change my behaviour. Up until then I’m carrying on as normal

I went out today (Saturday) and was surprised how busy it was.

Went to hairdressers yesterday and they were busier than normal but have have people cancel/postpone for next week.

I’m staying home now. Bar a counselling appointment on Monday.

We have some deliveries next week and decorators in and BT engineer coming though. Other than that we are staying home. Lucky enough that we can.

I completely get that most people can’t but I think that if those of us who can stay home do and others reduce their contact with others as much as possible it all must help.
