Who looks after elderly relatives

My fil is 83 and struggles breathing, he had asbestos scaring on his lungs. Apart from this he is in good health and manages from day to day very well. We go round and help with his house and cooking 2 or 3 times a week.

If he was diagnosed with corona would dh or I be able to move in to look after him or would we be advised to keep away. I would hate him being on his own and poorly.

I think you could move in and stay with him and then self isolate as a unit of two.

But I would be interested to hear what, if any plans there are, to help elderly people who are living on their own but fall ill with corona.

Would carers still visit of paid? Are there plans to open special units for the elderly where they would be looked after? Would those without family nearby to support them be left to die alone?

They're only testing people that are bad enough to be hospitalised so if he was diagnosed the hospital would be looking after him (hopefully).

It would be worse if you had to self isolate and couldn't visit him.
