Anyone been confirmed with Coronavirus? What’s it feel like?

People at my work have had fever and cough and continued to come in. One lady had been to Italy in February, was unwell on her return and continued to be so until last week she was put on steroids for a chest infection. Other people have had fever and cough, one unwell enough to be off all week despite not wanting to be.
Other people coming in with fever and cough and coughing all over the office
How do we know when it is just a virus other than Coronavirus?
I’ve felt mildly unwell this week. I just heard someone on the radio saying she has been confirmed as having it but doesn’t feel that bad?

@Lightline on the one hand I understand that testing costs a lot of money etc but apart from that, not testing makes no sense. They don't know where cases are or how many, as well as I have no idea if I've had it or not so I don't know if I still have to be cautious (around people, for dd etc) also I have no idea if I have to self isolate again if I get sick again after this "bug" has gone, if this is coronovirus and I get a cold in a couple of weeks then I should be able to know it's only a cold, or if this is a bug now and then in a few weeks I get coronovirus... Well I won't have any idea will I. As goes for any one.

DazedandConcerned · 14/03/2020 18:53

They think my dad has Covid-19. So far he has a cough, fever and some difficulty breathing. Very tired and some general aches and pains. I'm self isolated for 7 days because of this.

He works for the NHS and came into contact with a physician who has it. He is doing alright, not as bad I feared it would be. Thankfully he doesn't have any major underlying conditions which are complicating recovery. I'll update if anything happens to give people an idea of how it is tested.

Neverender · 14/03/2020 18:54

I think the issue is, it's really mild for some. That's the problem. I have had a cold/flu and cough for about three weeks. Spent the last week at home, mainly because I felt like crap. It's 50/50 in my mind whether I've had it or not, but not been so knackered with anything else before.

AuldAlliance · 14/03/2020 18:56

A friend told me today about a friend of hers who caught it in the Alps (I live in France). He was really ill for two weeks and is still far from back to normal.
Fit, healthy, under 50.

TheFormidableMrsC · 14/03/2020 18:57

I strongly suspect that a lot of people have had it and not realised. I know at least one family who were blindsided by a virus and isolated for two weeks as one family member is immuno supressed. They were all totally knocked out with what are now known to be CV symptoms but all have recovered and are back to normal. It's difficult because those who have experienced mild would have just carried on with life yet probably spread it everywhere unknowingly.

QueenArseClangers · 14/03/2020 18:58

How on earth has your mother justified her ‘hoax’ theory @ArthurMorgan?

FoxEars · 14/03/2020 19:02

Oh my goodness

Why on earth wasn't the symptomatic people sent home from your work and why the fuck did they even come to work in the first place.

Absolutely astonishing.

What selfish bastards

paintcolourwoes · 14/03/2020 19:02

I’m about 50% certain I had it a few weeks ago (way before we started considering it as a possibility here, but I work at a large university with a sizeable international population and colleagues who went to mainland China over the Christmas break - so although unlikely but not impossible). I had a very sore throat and a growing fever for about 24 hours, then the throat went but my entire trachea and bronchi felt raw, and I had this awful awful cough that felt like I was trying to move crap from the very base of my lungs. This went on for several weeks, the fever dipped a bit to just around 38C but stayed for 2.5 weeks. I was achy and so so tired; fell asleep at my desk, had brain fog, snapped at a couple of colleagues. After 3-4 weeks the cough became productive and another fortnight later I had abx which cleared it. I think the first period of illness was a nasty virus and the symptoms fit. It was unpleasant, but quite survivable. Breathing uncomfortable and laboured, cough was vile. So who knows!

ArthurMorgan · 14/03/2020 19:04

@QueenArseClangers I presume she's researched it... On YouTube.

ArthurMorgan · 14/03/2020 19:10

Sorry I sent too soon. Something about an excuse for the government to give you another injection... But that's 3rd hand as she's not talking to me

Lightline · 14/03/2020 19:11

@FoxEars I think lots of people will do that as they can’t afford (for various reasons) to live off SSP. This is why I am fascinated as to the symptoms and the different experiences of those confirmed to have it. If some people experience a fairly mild illness they are likely to carry on and infect others as there is no testing to confirm cases

i have had a cough for just over two weeks and still have dry cough and sore itchy throat, driving me mad i wish it would go. Didn't self isolate as didn't have fever and the advice wasn't clear back then. Last weekend i felt quite tired and coldy and headachey but still no fever. No idea if it is corona or not.

ThreeBlindNice · 14/03/2020 19:11

@DazedandConcerned is your dad at home? Hope is gets well soon

ContessaferJones · 14/03/2020 19:12

I suspect I may have it (headache, fever, sore throat). I also suspect that one of the DC has had it for a week and we didn't notice (they've been coughing a bit more than usual). I feel really guilty about all the people he may have spread it to Sad

I'm lurking at home now and will WFH for the next week. I did venture out to take one of the DC to a sports session, but wasn't prepared for quite how weird it would feel to move amongst people (not near them or touching stuff, I hasten to add) in my 'potential' state. Far easier to stay at home from here on in.

I'm starting to feel like anyone voluntarily going anywhere with crowds (i.e not just food shopping) is being socially irresponsible - anyone else feeling like that?

Lightline · 14/03/2020 19:13

Thanks @paintcolourwoes that’s really interesting. It’s good to know you feel better

underneaththeash · 14/03/2020 19:14

@ArthurMorgan - DS1 has had the same. But a rash came on during day 5 and there is no rash associated with coronavirus so after several conversations with the Drs, we've decided it's another virus. But he's quite unwell still and I'm keeping him off school until it's done.

The other consideration is that none of us have had it and as the V-value (the contagiousness of the virus) of coronavirus is very high, the rest of the family would have contracted it by now.

I would have isolated us by now otherwise.

Movinghouseatlast · 14/03/2020 19:17

And this is how this is spreading. People still going in to work in this way is just so selfish.

DazedandConcerned · 14/03/2020 19:17

@ThreeBlindNice He is at home. The coughing and difficulty breathing are not as bad as my pneumonia last year.

Thank you so much for the best wishes. I worry more for mum who has MS but thankfully the death rates have not been focussed too much on auto immune conditions. More high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.

Doodledoom · 14/03/2020 19:19

@ArthurMorgan
Are you sure it's not TB?! Grin

(it's a joke people, if you know who Arthur Morgan is you will get it)

HairyTesticles · 14/03/2020 19:19

I've been told to self isolate, I have a persistent hacking cough, a headache, sore throat, fatigue, and I keep feeling really hot, no appetite. My boss wasn't happy. Been told not to go and get tested to confirm though, so who knows🤷‍♀️

Love2cycle · 14/03/2020 19:19

I'm hearing a few people been prescribed anti biotics for covid 19. I thought it was pointless to give them for viruses?

ArthurMorgan · 14/03/2020 19:21

@Doodledoom

paintcolourwoes · 14/03/2020 19:22

Thanks @Lightline - apart from a couple of days off at the start I worked through much of it, though have my own office so was quite contained in that respect. Some of my colleagues developed something similar so I guess it was contagious, but DH didn’t seem to, DCs are always unwell though. I think I probably do feel better but not completely even though it’s 2 months since it started. I’m still a little bit fatigued

user1480880826 · 14/03/2020 19:24

@Jokie who has been looking after your relative? And how have they avoided catching the virus? I don’t understand how we’re meant to care for family members without ending up getting ill ourselves. And when we get ill how are we meant to look after our kids?

CandyLeBonBon · 14/03/2020 19:29

@love2cycle I would imagine the antibiotics would be for secondary chest infections/pneumonia which can be treated with antibiotics because they are bacterial not viral
