Advice about self isolating

My DS age 8 developed a high temperature last night (39.5°c) along with all the usual feeling cold/shivering but being extremely hot to touch. Has woken up today much the same and feeling pretty miserable. No D&V or coughing/sneezing. Just a high fever. (39.9 today) I understand from the information available I need to isolate him for 7days from symptoms starting- so until next Friday - however is the advice the same for children? I have no symptoms and will absolutely be expected in work on Monday so unsure how to navigate this with my employers. Obviously if I start to become unwell it would be more clear cut but at the moment I am feeling fine. Should it be assumed that everyone with a fever has COVID19 & treat them as such? I also assume if I am isolating him it would be inappropriate for me to ask anyone else to care for DS. Sorry for all the questions but I cannot find any information relating specifically to children & their carers online!? It is difficult as he does present with a fever whenever unwell which usually resolves within 24hrs. Thanks in advance.

The current government advice is not that everyone should isolate if one person has symptoms. It's also very big on aiming to isolate and recognises that not all those measure will be possible especially living at home with children or caring for adults with additional needs. It's also clear that any child who displays a new persistent cough and/or has a temperature needs to be as isolated as possible for 7 days.

They anticipate changing it to entire households soon, but it is not current guidance.

So just incase anyone is interested, it turns out DS actually has an ear infection. GP prescribed antibiotics and has advised he can go back to school when he feels better and does not need to isolate for 7 days. She said lots of people are confused by the government advice atm and her view is if the fever can be attributed to an illness that is clesrly not CV then no need to isolate.
