I don't understand the NHS Advice re: Self Isolation

I thought the advice was to self isolate from Friday for seven days if you had a cough and a raised temperature. I have just looked again, and it says 'seven days from when symptoms present.' They presented on Tuesday night, and I went to work until the new advice came through, when I started self isolating.

Do I need to self isolate until next Tuesday or Friday?

I find staying in very frustrating, but realise that my own wants are a bit selfish when people's lives are on the line. I just want to know when I can safely go out again.

Tuesday. Though the three extra days wouldn't hurt.

Thank you! I'd love to be out and about again on Tuesday, as long as I am safe to be and not accidentally harming people.

Don't you need to apply a bit of common sense to the guidelines though, as they are exactly that - "guidelines"! If you were still coughing for example, you don't go into work, just because the '7 days are up'?

Why didn't you stay off when you began to feel unwell? What were your symptoms?

I didn't stay off when I began feeling unwell because it is a wet mucusy cough, and all the guidelines said that it was a dry cough you should have worried about for Covid 19. The guidance changed on Friday night to staying off if you have any cough. I didn't have a heightened temperature until Friday.

I had a cough started Tuesday. Asked work HR whether they wanted me to stay home and was told to come in on Monday. I'm a teacher
