I have been to London many times before. And I have never seen it so quiet on a sat. It is so empty.

@Becca19962014 - Flowers Take very good care.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 14/03/2020 13:40

My town bustle and busy as normal

AuntieStella · 14/03/2020 13:42

"The coffee shops are empty"

BBC has an article saying that this is an existential threat to coffee shops and similar places

KatherineJaneway · 14/03/2020 13:45

I guess it is Grin

I love Voyager, it is the comfort food of TV for me.

savethecat · 14/03/2020 13:50

Its busier than Ive ever seen here! North West.

DaphneduM · 14/03/2020 13:54

Just a normal busy Saturday in my city, coffee shops full as well. The guy in front of me at Primark (50's) was coughing his guts up - lovely!!!!

Drivemybluecar · 14/03/2020 13:57

@AuntieStella we choose an independent one. Not sure our little coffees will help but it’s something

It is very eerie I know. I was in Hastings on Thursday and have never seen it so quiet. It's perfect for me as I struggle with a lot of people, but very strange.

It is going to hit a lot of businesses badly I'm sure.

ArtisanBreadBin · 14/03/2020 14:02

I'm in east London and it's buzzing.

Vanhi · 14/03/2020 14:04

I think it's totally irresponsible though for your specialists to tell you that. Surely no one can know that for sure?

My mum has a compromised immune system and damaged lungs. If she gets it, I highly doubt she will survive. If her doctors told her this I'd just take it as them warning her, and us, to be extremely careful.

FizzyLimes · 14/03/2020 14:07

Well that’s good to hear.
At least people are being sensible even if the government are idiots

Deux · 14/03/2020 14:09

I was thinking of going to Ikea this evening but not sure. I’m fine and have no symptoms but it seems irresponsible iyswim.

Anyone been to Ikea today in the UK?

Justaboy · 14/03/2020 14:09

Meanwhile four coaches of idiots have turned up at my village. Because we don't have any cases so they'll be safe.

You'll have to read up on what happened in the derbyshire village of Eyam in the black death plague times;!

Shutting down the schools saw a lot ofd Spanairds head to the coast and have a virus swap there;!

Perhaps BoJo was right?..

Bluejuicyapple · 14/03/2020 14:11

Heaving in my bit of N London. No Londoner over the age of 14 goes to oxford street so I expect it was missing the tourists

ParkheadParadise · 14/03/2020 14:14

I'm in Glasgow. This morning I walked to the local supermarket to buy flowers. It was mobbed, queued up at every checkout with overflowing trolleys. Most of the shelves were empty.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 14/03/2020 14:16

Covent garden is empty too.

JellyfishandShells · 14/03/2020 14:20

Well everyone must be in my town on the south coast, it’s Absolutely heaving, more people than an August bank holiday

Just chatted to my neighbour ( we are SW London) who was off for a weekend break on the south coast ‘to get away from it all’ - interesting to hear they aren’t the only ones who came up with this idea :/

UntamedWisteria · 14/03/2020 14:23

I live in a large rural county where people think we are safe because there are only 4 recorded cases.

The real number is much, much higher - because most people who have got it are mild and aren't being tested for it.

I suspect that by now it is probably in all but the most remote communities.

LynetteScavo · 14/03/2020 14:26

DH is in London and the photo he sent to me showed it looking empty.

I on the other hand went to Sainsbury's and it was absolutely heaving.

Usernamealreadyexists · 14/03/2020 14:26

Sat alone in an Italian in Notting Hill and its dead. I zipped though C London in my car in record time today.

Heylottie33 · 14/03/2020 14:29

I live in a very popular seaside town in South Devon. Sunny day, town heaving, coffee shops and cafes all busy. Next couple of weeks promise good weather, I cant see people taking self isolation seriously, and i can definitely see people seeking out a seaside break over Easter.

FredaFrogspawn · 14/03/2020 14:29

Park on the edge of North London was busy with walkers and dogs and kids.

Scruffyoak · 14/03/2020 14:29

Seems ok in Ipswich. Same as usual.

jopjop · 14/03/2020 14:31

Saw a play in London and it was busy, west end was busy. My town was busy today. I haven't noticed much difference tbh. I suppose commuter trains will be quieter with lots of people working from home.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 14/03/2020 14:31

People are drawn to nature in times of crisis - seaside, country villages etc. It’s a way to centre yourself I think
