Initially when the government released their advice following the COBRA meeting I was seething. I stumbled across this thread and it now makes a bit more sense Hmm. But I’m still sceptical and not sure what to think.

Tell me your thoughts after reading it?

It's interesting. He's obviously in the business of modelling etc and that's what it sounds like the chief scientist (?) and chief medical officer were saying yesterday. But modelling is largely guesswork. There are a lot of ifs involved but I don't necessarily know that the other countries in the world have not also been guessing. We've at least got the advantage of being a bit behind Italy etc. Even though Italy and China seem to be in a better place now, we still don't know how it will play out anywhere.

I suppose it's calming to hear people talking about the situation in a calm and analytical way. Just have to trust they know what they are doing.

I agree, it is calming. I think for my own peace of mind I need to read more feed like this and less of the hysterical genocide accusations that have been doing the rounds on SM, or just have a SM break I guess. Both my parents and in-laws have underlying health concerns putting them at great risk, so it’s easy to feel a bit overwhelmed.

I think it's a very big gamble to be taking with a virus, particularly one about which so little is known. We don't know how quickly it mutates or even how many strains there might be and this information is vital for any concept of herd immunity to work.

Viruses are notoriously tricky in their evolution.

They are also making a lot assumptions around peoples behaviour, though that is probably a lot easier to predict than the virus.

But most importantly they are not providing substantial guidance on protecting the most vulnerable groups in all
this, which is very worrying.
