Why ? What are they trying to do. Why would they not want a school closed for a deep clean at minimum for a confirmed case of corona virus.

Has that actually happened and did they say specifically they would refuse to allow it to be closed for cleaning? What about if the roof falls in or some other problem?

Raella50 · 13/03/2020 23:29

Where have you heard this?!

AStarSoBright · 13/03/2020 23:31

Do you have a source for this? It's not on the BBC or Sky News

RoseAndRose · 13/03/2020 23:32

Link?

“The WHO director general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said all possible action should be taken: “Not testing alone. Not contact tracing alone. Not quarantine alone. Not social distancing alone. Do it all.”

Hours later, in a significant change of tack, Downing Street signalled it was preparing to stop large public events, including sports fixtures and concerts, to alleviate the pressure on police and the ambulance service. It did not specify what size of event would be affected, and the timing of the clampdown has yet to be decided, but it is expected to come into force in a week’s time.

Emergency legislation due to be passed by the government next week is expected to include compensation for organisations forced to cancel events. It is also expected to include the power to temporarily detain sufferers if necessarily.

Whitehall sources said the country would move toward widespread home-working, although details had yet to be thrashed out.‘

Rubbish!

Front page of tomorrow’s Times.

Head teachers won’t be able to keep schools open if they have no teachers because they’re all ill.

Have you an actual link for this?? It seems crazy that most European countries are shutting schools down yet this suggests that our government are instead going to force schools to open?!

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/03/2020 23:38

@ fedup21 it’s on the front page of tomorrow’s Times.

@MyDcAreMarvel

I don’t get anything if I google that.

Can you give a link?

What does banning mass gatherings have to do with preventing closure of schools.?

This topic gets more batshit by the minute.

fedup21 · 13/03/2020 23:41

Oh.

Schools ‘could’ be forced to stay open.

I’ll not hold my breath for that one.

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/03/2020 23:41

That’s not where I got my information from, it was from a colleague of Dh that’s just the only reference I could find to it online.

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 13/03/2020 23:44

As a PP said, they can't keep them open if there are no staff ... I wonder if this is a covert attempt to stop devolved powers creating a disparity across the UK.

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/03/2020 23:46

Well we will see what happens hopefully both dh’s friend and the source for the Times are wrong. I very much doubt it though. I really want to know what logic there could be in this. I feel like I am living in some surreal parallel universe to the rest of Europe.

LastTrainEast · 13/03/2020 23:47

MyDcAreMarvel It should be up to the P.E teacher. Your average P.E teacher knows better than some guy who wasted his life studying epidemics.

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 13/03/2020 23:55

I doubt they are wrong that the government currently thinks it will try to push those measures through but this will be a leak to gauge public and political will. It doesn't mean it will make it to or through parliament.
