How many people actually understand what a lockdown would involve?

Bearbehind · 13/03/2020 21:07

I realise there’s outrage about our governments handling of this but, on one hand we appear to have countless people insisting schools must shut now

And on the other hand we have people who-

  • think they could still participate in their hobbies
  • think a lock down would be over in a fortnight
  • think they could go on a cheap holiday while the kids are off

How many people genuinely understand locking down now will be for months and you won’t be classed as ‘exceptional’ or ‘special’ - you’ll be expected to actually stay inside for the duration otherwise it achieves nothing.

I'm with you OP. The amount of people who want the schools to close but expect everyone else to continue to work to make sure their everyday lives don't change.

Bearbehind · 13/03/2020 22:55

or order things to their door?

Dear God.

If we had to lockdown who the fuck do you think is going to be delivering goods to your door?

Have you actually thought this through!

OP posts:
JustInCaseCakeHappens · 13/03/2020 22:55

I am guessing the OP will not allow access to people's gardens either...

Balcony out of bound too?

Bearbehind · 13/03/2020 22:57

just you are exactly the type of person who makes this situation impossible

It’s all fine until it inconveniences you, then it’s not

OP posts:
JustInCaseCakeHappens · 13/03/2020 22:57

Bearbehind
you haven't thought that through either.

Unless we have robots on standby that I didn't about (and it's possible), if EVERYBODY is on lockdown, so no food/supplies/army/police... there's no one to maintain or produce anything, but there's no one to actually keep you on lock down either Grin

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/03/2020 22:57

All your doing is slowly the spread so health centres dont have to start choosing who not to kill today.

Lockheart · 13/03/2020 22:57

@Bearbehind "If we had to lockdown who the fuck do you think is going to be delivering goods to your door?"

Amazon, according to those who are actually in lockdown. We've been through this.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 13/03/2020 22:58

I wasn't specially planning on going on holiday or taking my kids to the local soft play, but you are actually not making any sense.

MrSkinnyLegsSpider · 13/03/2020 22:58

The same people delivering it in other countries in lockdown? 🤔

Of course there will be disruptions, of course it will not be as normal, you are right that some people will have to drastically adjust their expectations, but you aren't listening to PPs at all or understanding that lockdown could come in different forms.

Bearbehind · 13/03/2020 22:59

Amazon deliver, I ordered paper as we ran out and colouring is all my daughter age four has to do for the next bloody month.

So you and your daughter can’t get out but you expect someone to bring you drawing paper to your door

Like I said, I despair at the mentality of some people

OP posts:
MrSkinnyLegsSpider · 13/03/2020 23:00

@Bearbehind they aren't delivering out of charity. Businesses will go under if they don't continue trading

Bearbehind · 13/03/2020 23:00

Amazon, according to those who are actually in lockdown. We've been through this.

So do you think the Amazon delivery drivers are just immune

Or is your need for ‘stuff’ more important than them being able to isolate too?

OP posts:
JustInCaseCakeHappens · 13/03/2020 23:01

Bearbehind
why are you dismissing people's personal experience and confusing their facts with your own expectations?

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 13/03/2020 23:02

It's hilarious, but I can't decide if it's a wind up or if someone has trouble processing informations Grin

5zeds · 13/03/2020 23:02

You seem very angry OP. People will work out what works for them just like you do in any new situation.

Bearbehind · 13/03/2020 23:03

I’m not dismissing people’s experiences, I’m astounded by their selfishness

Those people appear to be isolating whilst expecting others keep working to deliver random shite to their doorstep

If you really don’t see a problem with that then there’s no hope

OP posts:
Lockheart · 13/03/2020 23:04

@Bearbehind you're not listening to anyone and outright making things up now.

It's not "stuff" people need, it's food. Amazon can deliver food. I'm not entitled to "stuff" but I am entitled to food.

I'll ask you an outright question, perhaps that will help.

Which of the two scenarios do you think is more risky in terms of spreading the virus:
a) One person making contactless deliveries to multiple households, or
b) those same households all leaving their house and going to the shops?

Bearbehind · 13/03/2020 23:05

lockheart that rather depends if you’re that one person making the deliveries or not

Are places like garages open in Italy?

Pluckedpencil · 13/03/2020 23:07

@Bearbehind. I despair. They are trying to slow the virus down. People who can be at home are at home, people whose job involves their physical presence are still at work taking massive precautions. The driver leaves the parcel downstairs now. No face to face contact. Kids are no longer spreading it. I have only seen my nuclear family today. Why are you trying to make me feel guilty about ordering paper on Amazon when I'm the one who has been trapped in a house with a four year old for the last three fucking weeks when there isn't even one case in a 50km radius? Franky I'm pretty pissed off that Italy are trying so hard to keep it at bay and their kids are missing five weeks of school while the UK are still going to Cheltenham races!

Lockheart · 13/03/2020 23:07

@Bearbehind and what risk is there to you, as a delivery driver, if you are making contactless deliveries in deserted streets?

ItsGoingTibiaK · 13/03/2020 23:07

@bearbehind

Are you just playing Fantasy Lockdown Scenarios now? Are you salivating at the thought of setting up your own vigilante patrols? Will you be personally vetting your neighbours to make sure their visit to the doctor is essential, and they're not just popping there?

Because, as well as just making up what you think people are saying, you also seem to be just making up your own lockdown rules, contrary to all evidence of what is actually happening.

For example, you know that, even in China, under their very strict lockdown conditions, under an authoritarian regime, they're still getting online deliveries, don't you?

CousinKrispy · 13/03/2020 23:08

She isn't expecting Amazon to deliver paper to her because she's entitled or clueless. She has discovered that Amazon currently still will deliver paper, and she is very sensibly taking advantage of that (paid-for) service rather than leaving her home to purchase it and risking greater spread of infection. Why on earth are you having a go at her?

Your vision of lockdown seems to be that everyone in the entire country is on house arrest, while posters on this thread who have or are actually experiencing lockdown/social distancing in their countries, have clearly explained that it is not like that (who on earth is taking temperatures at shop and park entrances in China, or stocking the shops, if everyone is locked up, for example?).

So your despair about selfish quinoa-eaters who dare to buy office supplies online or take the dog for a walk without coming closer than 2 metres to anyone else sounds increasingly ill-informed.

MrSkinnyLegsSpider · 13/03/2020 23:08

There is a difference between isolation and lockdown OP. Delivery drivers in some cases may be among the lucky ones who can still earn a living when they are in a position to, either having recovered or still being healthy. They can choose not to deliver and isolate too (though I appreciate the financial implications of that decision if the government don't enforce closure and give assistance)

A previous poster mentioned an Italian coffee shop offering to deliver ice cream presumably because they very much need the business, not because they are selflessly pandering to the whims of the selfish isolated people.

I was with you at the start because you are right that some people are selfish and their expectations are way off but you are misunderstanding most posters replying to you.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 13/03/2020 23:09

You need to start shutting the fuck up Bear because lots of us are sitting in our fucking locked down towns and having to read shit from smug twats like you is starting to irk a bit. You scattergun these threads with your barking questions at people like some schoolmistress from Victorian times then belittle anybody who tries to explain what it's actually like.
Our OTC medicines are delivered by courier. My lysoform for cleaning our fucking surfaces comes from Amazon. And trust us, when approx 50% of the Italian workforce is going to be in casa integrazione shortly (look it up) that Amazon driver knows how lucky he is to still be working. And he told me so.
Our children are very probably going to need counselling. We are fighting a fucking war here.
