Covid
5 year old with cough...
Showmeyournose · 13/03/2020 17:41
DC has come home from school coughing pretty much constantly since he got in. Doesn’t feel particularly warm.
What to do? What is the CV cough like?

Yep, self-isolation. If you try to send him into school on Monday, they’ll probably send him home.
Showmeyournose · 13/03/2020 17:50
Righty oh then! I’ve got other DC... do I keep them home too?
HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 13/03/2020 17:51
Self isolation, as per the recommendations.
HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 13/03/2020 17:51
Yes, if one is affected the likely good is you’re all.
Showmeyournose · 13/03/2020 18:04
Typical that I was debating not sending them in next week anyway!
meredithgrey1 · 13/03/2020 18:06
The current advice is just for the ill person to stay home. They've said this may change later though
OnUp · 13/03/2020 18:06
Im sending my 5yo DC on monday. He was off today because i didnt want him coughing and sneezing on anyone and them then having to self-isolate but the teacher noticed he was stuffed-up on wednesday and Thursday, so its not techincally a new cough. I'll be bit put out if he's sent home as it's clearly just a routine cold and he'll be better on monday. But they have said they will be enforcing the 7 day rule for anyone who keeps their kids off citing the new guidelines
HelpFlattenTheCurve · 13/03/2020 18:37
Yes, please do this. Even if it is inconvenient, and even if your DC will certainly be fine regardless, and probably also you assuming you are under 70 and don't have certain serious health conditions.
Hopefully it is not COVID-19, but if it is, then by the self-isolation, you will have saved lives
OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 13/03/2020 18:45
I have one with a fever currently and current advice is keep them off but not the other. The ok ones school has said keep them off too. Makes life easier for me as I'm not sure how I can do the school run for one and leave the other behind without social services getting concerned!
Showmeyournose · 13/03/2020 18:50
We’re all quite happy at home with Netflix and a box of Lego!
Showmeyournose · 13/03/2020 18:50
He isn’t coughing as much now and is happily eating his dinner. Kids!
Mlou32 · 13/03/2020 18:55
Yep self isolation for 7 days. And no going out and about with them either. Good luck OP, it will be a tough week lol
Showmeyournose · 13/03/2020 19:25
I’m more scared of being stuck in with the kids than the actual virus! We have a static caravan in the middle of nowhere. Considering going there!
Showmeyournose · 16/03/2020 17:00
I kept them home today. 5 y old has just started with a high temp 38.3. He’s ok, playing quietly. The cough has pretty much gone now and he has a bit of a runny nose.
Talk me down and tell me that this is likely ‘just’ a cold...
Showmeyournose · 16/03/2020 17:18
He has watery eyes which is making me think it’s likely a cold...?
TwelveIslands · 16/03/2020 17:20
Your entire household now has to self isolate for fourteen days.
New advice just announced in the press conference.
EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 16/03/2020 17:21
Yup it's now whole family to isolate for 14 days
LambriniSocialist · 16/03/2020 17:22
The advice that Boris has just given is isolation for anyone with symptoms for 14 days and also everyone who lives with them too. Your child has had a cough and now has a high temperature, isolation it is for all of you!
Showmeyournose · 16/03/2020 17:24
I’m happy to do that. In fact, we’re already isolating ourselves to keep away from potential diseased people!
I’m just wondering if people think this sounds like a run of the mill cold? When he does cough, it sounds quite loose and his nose is runny. Not your typical CV symptoms?
HasaDigaEebowai · 16/03/2020 17:24
Whole houshold for 14 days as pps have just said. Press conference still going on but advice is very clear
