So far worldwide we have approx 118,000 people have been confirmed infected, and 7.7 billion people. That works out as 0.0015%. In the U.K. it’s 456 out of 67.7 million, so at 0.0007%. Why all the panic? The biggest over reaction ever?
Everyday 5 people die on the roads, we don’t close all the roads.
People need to get some perspective and stop encouraging each other to panic on social media and websites like this.

Lougle where has Covid-19 been classed as high probability - high severity? Med and stats people I know seem to consider it high probability - low severity, or at least they did last time I spoke to them. In contrast with Ebola which was considered not very transmittable but with a very high mortality rate.

Lougle · 12/03/2020 15:09

It's high severity for people who are vulnerable and highly spread.

Gadgnkk · 12/03/2020 15:09

Why don't you have a look at the situation in Italy, OP. I am not sure if you are on a wind up or if you are unaware of the facts surrounding this virus.

Roads are necessary for transport. Unfortunately accidents occur. I can't really see the analogy with a virus.

My 12 year old son has type one diabetes. He's not old, overweight or irresponsible about his health. Fabulous for you op that you're not worried. I would love to be afforded that luxury.

MrsBobDylan · 12/03/2020 16:38

Oh and his thyroid doesn't work, (co morbid immune condition). Again, he's at more risk.

My MIL smoked for years and is overweight. She has COPD and type 2 diabetes. She is also the loveliest person I've ever known and is like a Mum to me. She is very vulnerable right now. Am I allowed to worry for her?

AuntieStella · 12/03/2020 16:38

"Yes the old and ill will suffer, but it’s not as bad as is being made out"

I think that's one of the most heartless comments I've ever read.

zen1 · 12/03/2020 18:43

You’re entitled to your opinion OP. I would be interested to see if you are of the same mind come August.

itsgettingweird · 12/03/2020 18:48

Both my parents have cancer.

I'm worried.

Even more so as Boris so calmly announced we would lose many more.

sleepingpup · 12/03/2020 18:51

Yes the old and ill will suffer, but it’s not as bad as is being made out.

Let me guess. You're 'young' so that doesn't matter.

Old and ill suffering counts as 'media hype'.

Bore off.

bellinisurge · 12/03/2020 19:05

Is this nonsense thread still going?

AutumnCrow · 12/03/2020 19:06

Yes the old and ill will suffer, but it’s not as bad as is being made out

I'm wondering if @MNHQ might devise a moderation policy on comments like this. We are a website, on online community, comprising many, many parents - many of whom have ill children, and many of whom have caring responsibilities for parents, and many whom have their own disabilities and medical conditions.
