So far worldwide we have approx 118,000 people have been confirmed infected, and 7.7 billion people. That works out as 0.0015%. In the U.K. it’s 456 out of 67.7 million, so at 0.0007%. Why all the panic? The biggest over reaction ever?
Everyday 5 people die on the roads, we don’t close all the roads.
People need to get some perspective and stop encouraging each other to panic on social media and websites like this.

Alsohuman · 12/03/2020 14:26

Completely agree, OP. For context an average of 17,000 people die of flu every year.

AutumnCrow · 12/03/2020 14:27

Is that you, Andrea?

A bit of advice, love, the pink leather jacket look wasn't a good one.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 12/03/2020 14:27

Instead of posting this ignorant bullshit, why don’t you go away and do some proper research and then come back and report your findings?

Germophobe · 12/03/2020 14:28

Some people are just hard of thinking. Ignore.

Mlou32 · 12/03/2020 14:28

Ok. Discounting the personal complications that coronavirus will cause the affected individual. Do you realise the impact that it will have on other services? If beds and resources in hospital are taken over by coronavirus cases then where are those who have heart attacks, strokes, who have accidents etc going to go? The doctors and nurses who usually provide care and treatment for these folk are going to be monopolised with this pandemic.

Jerseygaly · 12/03/2020 14:29

That's only in 2w though and all those will have infected at least another 2 each..
You can catch it after the person has it 1 day to 14+
Look how many get it on a cruise ship.
Maybe from 1 person by the end of isolation they had 700+

Lougle · 12/03/2020 14:33

It's severity vs probability that matters. High probability, low severity... no panic. High severity, low probability.... no panic. High severity, high probability.... panic!

That's Covid19- high probability, high severity with exponential gain and limited resources.

That's why the Government is panicking.

GrumpyHoonMain · 12/03/2020 14:35

* Over 25,000 people tested in the U.K. with 456 positive. They haven’t tested anyone. They have tested people ill with symptoms. Less the 2% of ill people with symptoms have Corona. You all need to get into the real world and panic less.*

Haha. No the NHS haven’t tested everyone in symptoms. They are only testing people who have come from high risk areas and / or have been exposed to someone who definitely has Covid-19. I had all the symptoms and am now currently bedridden with pleurisy symptoms (chest pain, breathlessness, struggling to walk) - been told I don’t qualify to be tested and I can’t go to the GP or hospital unless my symptoms turn into an emergency. If I recover I will never be tested.

Lougle · 12/03/2020 14:35

You do realise that our country isn't set up for a contagious respiratory virus? The ICU I worked in until recently had 2 isolation rooms. Just 2. What happens when patient number 3 has Corona virus?

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 12/03/2020 14:37

Wasting of energy formulating a proper response, this is either attention seeking or just plain ignorance and at a time like this both are inexcusable.

CoronaCon · 12/03/2020 14:39

@GrumpyHoonMain you’re proving my point, in the fact I was saying they aren’t testing random people but only those who could potentially have it, so of the 25,000 who were ill and from a danger zone. Not testing healthy people.

OP posts:
CoronaCon · 12/03/2020 14:43

@Lougle I take it you haven’t seen the stats of 80% of people having ‘mild’ symptoms, patient 3 will be at home. Wink
We will all be fine. Climate change is more of an issue; as is suicide, road traffic accidents, alcohol, cancer and obesity.

OP posts:
AutumnCrow · 12/03/2020 14:44

Oh dear.

Waspnest · 12/03/2020 14:44

Think about this. There’s is a lot of people young and old out their with undiagnosed problems such heart and diabetes.

Yes I think a lot of people are ignoring this and assuming that because they're not elderly they'll be fine. There was an article in the Times on Saturday saying that it's not being elderly per se which puts people at risk, it's the underlying health issues such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, lung problems, hypertension and cancer. Babies and children seem to be less at risk because they are very unlikely to have these problems (and maybe the pneumococcal vaccine is giving protection who knows).

Loads of middle aged people are overweight and possibly have diabetes/cardiovascular problems without being aware of it. If any good is to come out of this, maybe people will start taking their health more seriously and not just rely on the NHS to cure them with drugs.

bellinisurge · 12/03/2020 14:45

You not being worried and it being a con are two different things.
Grow the fuck up.

PutYourBackIntoit · 12/03/2020 14:47

@coronacon

No they are not testing all who potentially have it. They're only testing people who a. have symptoms and b. known travel or contact with positive case.
The problem with a. is that the incubation period can be up to 2 weeks plus one week for testing therefore the real results are 3 weeks behind. Given the growth rate of spread, the numbers who are likely to have it unknowingly, is pretty scary.
This leads on to the problem with the testing of criteria b. in that it's spreading in the community already so most people who have it now will not have been in contact with a known case, and therefore they cannot be tested either further spreading the virus around.

CoronaCon · 12/03/2020 14:48

@Waspnest totally agree with you, hopefully people start taking a bit of self responsibility with their own health.

OP posts:
friendineed · 12/03/2020 14:51

For every one person tested and positive there are about 50 walking around undiagnosed with covid 19 All of whom are infecting others.

sleepingpup · 12/03/2020 14:51

@Corona Con

Time to get out from behind those screens. You're too invested.

And no one cares what you think.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 12/03/2020 14:52

Even if you aren't elderly surely you know people who are elderly/young/have underlying health conditions? I mean everyone you care about can't be young, fit and well can they?

It's all very well to say "only the old a frail will die, we will all be fine" but actually quite a few people are elderly, quite a few have underlying conditions. The assumption that everyone is fit and healthy and doesn't need to worry gets me.

Sunshinesky1981 · 12/03/2020 14:53

Everyday 5 people die on the roads, we don’t close all the roads

Yes that is true.

HOWEVER we cut down individual risk by following government/ Law -
Wearing a seatbelt
Having MOT's to check the safety of vehicles
Have restricted driving hours for HGV/Coaches
Have set speed limits on road
Have traffic signs to give adequate warnings of dangers
Have limits on Drug/Alcohol consumption for drivers
Have driving tests to ensure road users are safe

What we don't do is say 'ah feck it' as long as the cars clean, no need to do anything else.

friendineed · 12/03/2020 14:55

And most people including the gov aren't panicking just taking sensible measures. 80% of people are likely to catch it because there is no herd immunity. If everyone had it at the same time it would be a disaster with no one to care for the sick. These measures are designed to slow it down so that it's manageable over a longer period.

Waspnest · 12/03/2020 14:55

Yes but that's for the future. For now we have to try to prevent susceptible people from catching it. And that means people taking a bit of self responsibility and not risk passing it to others. Unless of course you're all for survival of the fittest and couldn't give a toss about people dying, in which case you're just a common or garden GF.

CoronaCon · 12/03/2020 14:57

@friendineed make up your own figures if you want!

OP posts:
PhilCornwall1 · 12/03/2020 15:04

We all should be terrified.

That's a bit strong, I'm nowhere near that or even approaching worried yet.
